A Night of “Unscripted Hilarity” Planned for Jan. 25
Butte Theater
The RiP Improv Theater group returns to the historic Butte Theater in Cripple Creek for a night of unscripted hilarity! This rare comedy performance, designed for mature audiences of ages 16-plus, is scheduled for January 25 at 7 p.m.
Using only the suggestions from the audience, The RiP presents a night of short-form, long-form and musical improvisational comedy unlike anything ever seen before, and because it’s completely made up off the top of their heads, this theatrical performance will never be seen again!
The RiP has been performing improv since 2005, creating unscripted laughs for almost two full decades. Most of that time has been spent performing a monthly show with the Millibo Art Theater in Colorado Springs, where they play the first Saturday of every month. They founded the Colorado Improv Festival that brought incredible acts in from all over the world. In addition, they have been featured in several comedy festivals across the country including the Denver Improv Festival, the Omaha Improv Festival, the Downtown Vegas Improv Festival, the West Coast Musical Improv Festival, and the Boston Comedy Arts Festival. They have also performed in Philadelphia, New York City, Toronto, and Kansas City.
This unique show will showcase short-form improv (Whose Line is it Anyway?) style scenes and games which will rely on answers from the audience when prompted from questions such as, “What’s the best/worst Christmas gift you ever received?”, or “What’s a place you wouldn’t want to have an argument?”, to get everything started. They’ll blend this with their own style of musical improv, songs made up completely on the spot, and some long-form improv, which takes a single suggestion to create characters and scenes and builds entire stories without any scripts!
The members of the RiP featured in this performance are Kaleb Kohart, Margarita Archilla-Kohart, and Jordan Arrick. They are all original founding members of The RiP. In addition to performing with The RiP they regularly perform in Denver at Rise Comedy or with the Chaos Bloom Players. In the latter group, they have gained much popularity in teach improv classes.
The RIP Improv performance kicks off a lively schedule of community theater at the Butte over the next few months. Check out TMJ’s Mountain Almanac for information on additional shows.
