Highland Lakes Fire Burns in Divide

The following is a press release submitted by the Teller County Sheriff’s Office
Overnight, the acreage of the fire expanded slightly from 90 to 98 acres. No additional structures have been damaged, and no additional people have been injured. Additional firefighting and other emergency agencies came on scene overnight and are being deployed into the area. More state resources are also on the way. Overall, the response by first responder agencies has been rapid and robust.
We ask that the residents of the effected area remain understanding and stay clear of the area to allow for the most efficient deployment and movement and response of the firefighters.
We additionally ask residents to observe the directions and guidance given by the deputies assisting in the effected area as they ensure efficient movement for the firefighters.
For residents who need to be escorted to their homes to retrieve life critical medicines, please call Teller County Dispatch at 719-687-9652 to schedule the escort.
Residents who need to shelter their animals can take their smaller pets to TCRAS or larger animals like horses to the fairgrounds in Cripple Creek.
With mission aircraft operating in the area, please do not fly drones in the area. Doing so may cause interference with or cancellation of those missions.
