The Woodland Park High School Panthers baseball team traveled to Florence for a doubleheader on Tuesday, where they split the games by coming up short in the first game with a score of 5-3 and winning the second game with a score of 7-1. The team’s progress for the season continues, as evidenced by their strong performance on the field.
Junior Griffin King led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and was joined by Senior Tanner McAfee and Junior Ian Newsham, who had two hits each. As a team, they collected ten hits and 15 walks, causing chaos on the bases and stealing nine bases, led by Senior Sam Marquez with three stolen bases.
The pitching was also strong, with outstanding efforts from Senior Tanner McAfee and Freshman Link Bryden. McAfee threw three innings in game one on 58 pitches, striking out 7 Huskies, while Bryden was impressive in game 2, throwing four shutout innings on 53 pitches and striking out 10 Huskies.
The team is busy preparing for their home game against Harrison on May 12 at 4 pm and May 13 at Manitou Springs at 11:00 am. The team thanks everyone for their support and encourages fans to come out and cheer them on. Go Panthers!
