Letter to the Editor

Generosity Abounds from the Cripple Creek ELKS Lodge BPOE #316

Dear Editor:

Penrose St. Francis Primary Care Cripple Creek located at the Cripple Creek-Victor Mountain Health Center, School Based Health Center, and the Cripple Creek School District would like to thank the Cripple Creek ELKS Lodge BPOE #316 for an amazing $6,000 to support our students.

Exulted Ruler, Lindsey Chapman, and ELKS Secretary, Rhonda Duncan, generously gave of their time to write three grants to include: The Gratitude Grant from the Elk’s National Foundation, The Beacon Grant, and the Anniversary Grant which was offered to celebrate the ELKS 150th Anniversary.

The ELKS have generously been writing grants to support the health needs of our students for the past seven years. We would also like to thank LaGree’s Venture Foods in Cripple Creek who generously donated green and red grapes for all Cresson Elementary students during their field day to reinforce health eating. Students were also given information on the importance of eating fruits and vegetables in an assembly presentation. The grapes were a perfect healthy snack and were enjoyed. This grant funding is used for medications (i.e. antibiotics, asthma inhalers, eye medications, etc.), dental needs for children, and x-rays, to name a few.  Thank you, Cripple Creek ELKS, Lodge BPOE #316 and the ELKS National Foundation for helping our students stay healthy and in school, as well as your commitment to support children in our community.

The partnership with Penrose St. Francis Primary Care Cripple Creek located at the Cripple Creek-Victor Mountain Health Center is thriving and this clinic is open to the entire community for all your health care needs. New patients are welcome at our location 412 North C Street (the building is attached to Cresson Elementary School). The hours of operation are Monday-Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm with the provider, Alessandra Bullis, Family Nurse Practitioner.  There are additional laboratory hours from 7:30 am to 9:00 am, where clients can make an appointment, or come in on a walk-in basis.  Please call (719) 776-4310, to schedule an appointment today. Student registrations must be completed annually, and a parent must be present at the first appointment; after the first appointment, children may be seen by themselves (dependent upon age dependent).

Continuation of many other services are still being provided.  Teller County Public Health is providing both immunizations and Confidential/Reproductive Health Services to our students and the community. Please call them directly at (719) 687-6416 to schedule an appointment.

Counseling services are available through Doug Randolph with Therapyworks and Jessica Hampton with AspenPointe Behavioral Health who both provide individual, family, and group counseling for our students on-site.
