Paul Ernest Harris
September 26, 1934 – April 25, 2015
Paul passed away late in evening of April 25th with his son Paul (Mike) at his side. Paul was born on September 26th, 1934 in Peoria, Illinois to John and Emma Harris. He grew up in New Castle and Golden, Colorado where he graduated from Golden High School. Paul was a veteran of the Korean War era and served with the 1st Marine Division, 1st Regiment – United States Marine Corps. Upon leaving the U.S.M.C, Paul attended the University of Northern Colorado – Greeley, where he graduated with a degree in education. Paul and his wife JoAnn were married on June 21st, 1958. Paul and JoAnn moved to Barstow, CA and Paul taught history, sociology and student government at Barstow High School for over 30 years. He was a friend and mentor to many students. After retiring from teaching, Paul was a member of the School Board for the Barstow Unified School District. Paul had many wonderful friends and memories of living in Barstow. In 2004, Paul and JoAnn moved to Cripple Creek, Colorado to be closer to their son, Mike, and his family. Paul had a great sense of humor and love for his friends and family. In his last years of life, Paul made numerous trips with Mike, Kim and Matt to California, Arizona, and around Colorado.
Paul is preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnn “Petey” Harris (2012), father John, mother Emma, brothers Robert (RJ) and Francis (Frank) and sister Eleanor. He is survived by his son Paul (Mike) Harris, daughter–in-law Kim, grandson Matt Harris, whom he loved dearly, of Divide, CO, brother Charles Harris (Loveland, CO), brother-in-law Robert Nagel (Montrose, CO) and many nieces and nephews.
