Raiders Take On the Jets; Chargers Challenge the Rams
It’s happening everywhere; every time you turn on the TV or radio and sports talk prevails.
Nobody seems to have good things to say about the Broncos. Whereas fans were thrilled and perhaps a little overly optimistic about the Broncos before the season started, many fans and NFL analysts alike have started to turn their backs on the team who earned the number one seed in the AFC in 2025.
The frustrations are real, as many groan as the Broncos make fans stay glued to the edges of their seats during every single game. Personally, I just hope that the Broncos can pick up at least one victory this year by a landslide. I can agree that these close wins are definitely getting old.
However, I do think that the Broncos got picked on a little too much after their close victory against the defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks. Many analysts have been gunning for the Broncos to axe starting quarterback Bo Nix, but I can’t say that I entirely agree with that sentiment.
During the Seahawks game, I was personally shocked when the Broncos came out swinging in the first half, unlike they had been able to do all season. Sure, their performance in the second half was sub-par, but we all need to remember that Nix and his crew were facing off against the toughest defense. I don’t think that it’s strange that the tough Seattle D was able to figure out the Broncos offense in the second half.
Plus, I still don’t think that Denver’s coaching staff is giving Nix the opportunity to really succeed. One stat that caught my eye was the fact that Nix has averaged only 4.9 air yards per passing play this season. This tells me that the coaches aren’t giving him the opportunity to drive the ball down the field, or the plays aren’t designed well enough to get receivers open.
Besides, the team still hasn’t played half the season. And based on their schedule moving forward, I would expect to see much better performance coming from the team as the season wears on.
Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos, Sunday 2:25 p.m.
This week, the Broncos have a chance to redeem themselves from their ugly loss against their rival Chiefs in Week One. The Chiefs basically dominated the Broncos, but now they will be looking for revenge. Besides, this week the Broncs are playing at home.
The team is currently undefeated at home with Denver bringing quite the 12th man to the field this season. Plus, I definitely think the Broncos have shown vast improvement since that first ugly game.
This week, the Broncos really need to focus on their defense. They can’t let Chiefs RB Kenneth Walker III run all over them like they did during the last game. I really would like to see the defense which the Broncos had last year make a return for this week.
However, the Broncos’ downfall this week will probably be with their lackluster offense. The Chiefs’ strong defense has shown that Nix and crew must be on their top game come Sunday. Personally though, I just don’t think we will see it this week against a Chiefs team that looks stronger than ever.
Trevor’s Pick: Kansas City Chiefs 28, Denver Broncos 24
Vegas Line: Broncos by 1.5.
Las Vegas Raiders at New York Jets, Sunday 11 a.m.
Even though they fell to the Chiefs and Patriots recently, I don’t think it’s wise to count the Raiders out just yet. They have vastly improved from the past few seasons, and they have a good team.
The Jets, on the other hand, have improved slightly, but they just don’t seem like they have what it takes to beat good teams. At press time, the Jets had only won two games against the poor Browns and Titans.
When it comes to how these teams rank against each other, it seems to me like the Raiders have the advantage. Before week 6, the Raiders had a power ranking of 17th versus the Jets’ 25th. However, the Jets did have a better defense as they were ranked 11th in total defense versus the Raiders’ 28th rank.
Trevor’s Pick: Las Vegas Raiders 21, New York Jets 19
Vegas Line: Jets by 1.5.
Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams, Sunday 2:05 p.m.
This week the City of Angels hosts a battle between their two teams. The Rams are listed as the home team, but they both play at the same stadium in the L.A. metro.
Even though the Rams haven’t looked like the league’s best team that some thought at one point, the Chargers have just not got it together. In fact, I think this game is one of the easiest to pick this week. I definitely feel sorry for Charger fans.
Trevor’s Pick: Los Angeles Rams 34, Los Angeles Chargers 17
Vegas Line: Rams by 3.5.
