Dear Editor:
As a longtime Woodland Park resident, a parent and grandparent, and someone who cares deeply about this community, I want to see our school district become strong again—not just for today’s students, but for the families who will call Woodland Park home for years to come.
Our district has rebuilding to do. That takes time, stability and the ability to focus its resources on students rather than constantly struggling to meet financial obligations. I believe 2B gives WPSD some much-needed breathing room while also respecting taxpayers.
What gives me confidence in 2B are the strict limits provided. The revenue is dedicated to paying existing district debt, not taking on new debt. There are accountability requirements, and the tax sunsets after five years. Those safeguards are important.
By helping pay down existing debt, 2B can allow district resources to be focused where they belong—on rebuilding programs, supporting classrooms, preserving activities and creating opportunities for our students.
Most importantly, strong schools benefit all of us. They benefit our children and grandchildren, our families, our neighborhoods and the future of Woodland Park.
We have an opportunity to help our district regain its footing while maintaining clear guardrails on how these tax dollars are used. I believe that is a responsible investment in our community and in all WPSD students and families.
I will be voting YES on 2B.
