2B Tax Increase–Another Bad Idea; Better District Management Needed

Woodland Park Re-2 represents only one educational option within our “school-of-choice” community. Of the 2,800 school-aged kids within its boundaries only 1,250 (44%) choose to attend district-run schools. Enrollment is down by 62% from 2001 when WPSD taught 3,300 kids. WPSD needs reform.

Despite receiving all-time-high per pupil revenue in 2026, WPSD wants another tax increase of $800,000+ annually – solely for themselves.  What a disgrace that WPSD CFO’s only plan to correct inept budgeting and plummeting enrollment is to impose a .25% sales tax on top of our already high 8.4% sales tax.  Re-2 needs better management and to cut waste -– not another tax increase.

WPSD’s Per-Pupil Revenue is at an all-time-high of over $13,050/student.  Among its many budgetary inefficiencies, WPSD is saddled with the enormous fiscal waste of operating its facilities at 39% of student capacity. In the last two years, WPSD’s CDE performance accreditation slipped 20% in “points earned” now requiring an “Improvement Plan.”

Enrollment in district-run schools decreased roughly 50% since 2016.  Re-2’s educational product has become unpopular in our community with over 1,500 students (56%) choosing other options that better fit their educational preferences.

WPSD should not bill the taxpayers for its inefficiencies, instead: Right-size the district’s portfolio to match the customers served, cut waste and earn some clean audits.  Another tax increase won’t fix poor performance or mismanagement.

Vote NO on tax increases, NO on Woodland Park’s Issue 2B – WPSD’s annual $800,000+, .25% sales tax hike.
