With the arrival of spring (or at least the semblance at times), local eateries are preparing for outdoor seating for those visitors and even locals who crave great views while enjoying their favorite entrées and drinks.
The quest for the best quality outdoor dining experience on the Mountain often turns into an outright race this time of year as operators have to balance challenging high country weather patterns with diners’ natural love for the outdoors. And yes, the clock is ticking for opening the gates for prized outdoor patios, decks and more view-friendly hubs.
Probably no local place can rival this attribute like the Wines of Colorado (WOC), located in Cascade, right at the base of Fountain Creek. WOC offers an amazing Creekside dining experience, coupled with a glass or two of award-winning vino from the state’s finest wineries, Colorado craft beer or special spirits, not to mention their famous culinary plates.
According to WOC staff, the demand for outdoor seating is intense, so now is the time to make reservations. There are ample choices, but the popularity of WOC’s outdoor eating hub can’t be debated, especially for this time of year. Recently, WOC was rated as the best patio area in the entire Pikes Peak region, according to the latest “Best of the Springs” contest.
But if outdoor dining is not your thing, check out the WOC lounge and dining room or the spacious historic bar, recently voted as one of the best wine bars in the entire region. The only downside is that you may find an occasional visitor from TMJ News at the WOC wine bar. Imagine that.
Not sure what special beverage to sample with your meal, take a tip or two from the knowledgeable staff, or from owner Arin DeMay.
The quality of WOC’s culinary trophy-level dishes is a sure fact, since WOC changed ownership and operational hands nearly five years ago. Besides their accolades in the “Best of the Springs” contest, WOC has fared at the top of the list in local newspaper competitions, winning the top gold in TMJ News for Best Seafood and Best Restaurant Atmosphere.
As far as special culinary quests, the Thursday Steak nights are still rated as an undisputed winner, based on frequent reports. A typical steak night, for example, features a 1- ounce hand-cut, Chargrilled, NY Strip topped with Herb Shallot Cream Sauce and served with Garlic Sauteed Vegetables and Rosemary Roasted Potatoes.
Some other often less discussed favorites include the enticing Chicken Parmesan, the locally-craved Buffalo Lasagna and the Wine Burger king, favorites of Editor Rick from TMJ.
And one of WOC’s best qualities: Unrivaled consistency. The restaurant is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Plenty to time to relish a great meal, and sip your favorite beverage, while enjoying one of nature’s great outdoor getaways. For more information, call 719-684-0900.
