Today, the Greater Woodland Park Chamber of Commerce unveiled the recipients of the 2024 service awards, including Volunteer, NonProfit, Employee and Business of the Year and Wagon Boss. Furthermore, the Chamber Foundation will grant three Wagon Boss Scholarships amounting to $15,000 during its Annual Dinner.
Chamber President Debbie Miller stated, “Teller County provides an exceptional environment for living, working, and contributing to our community, we see an abundant quantity of deserving nominees each year for our awards.”
Nominations opened in late November 2024 and closed on January 22, 2025. Nominations were forwarded to judges in late-January. “Over the years, we have discovered that sending nominations to a panel of out-of-state judges ensures unbiased evaluations ensuring impartial awards,” stated Chamber President Debbie Miller. “The nominations adhere to specific criteria, and the judges assessed them accordingly.”
The 2024 Volunteer of the Year Winner is an octogenarian but her age does not slow her down. Rusty Merrell will be honored as the Volunteer of the Year for the Chamber. Her unwavering dedication to numerous local organizations. From serving at the Little Chapel Food Pantry and teaching Sunday School at Mountainview Methodist Church to leading student tours at Mueller State Park and mentoring Girl Scouts, Rusty’s impact is farreaching. She also shares her musical talents with the Ute Pass Symphony Guild and supports the Walk to Emmaus retreat, all while inspiring others with her tireless commitment. A true role model, Rusty’s selfless service continues to enrich the community in countless ways. “She is the epitome of an unselfish volunteer who strives to positively influence the community without regard for her own glory.” noted Steve Woolf, past Chairman of the Chamber. “Rusty outshines volunteers who are half her age.” UCHealth Pikes Peak Regional Hospital (PPRH) will be honored as the 2024 Non-Profit of the Year for its commitment to expanding essential healthcare services in Teller County. Since UCHealth’s acquisition in 2018, they have made significant advancements, including upgrading imaging equipment, expanding specialty care, and hiring a full-time orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Benjamin Meyer, who has already completed milestone procedures. The radiology team, alongside dedicated hospital staff, has increased services to address the needs of the region’s population. PPRH continues to push the boundaries of medicine, ensuring the community receives top-tier care close to home. John Maxwell’s quote “It takes teamwork to make the dream work” is the personification of the UCHealth PPRH team. The seventeen radiology technicians alone bring over 117 years of experience to the Teller County region performing thousands of scans, test, X-rays and more. “In small, personal ways and through human connections the wonderful team assembled by PPRH has improved the quality of life for those in Woodland Park and the Teller County region.” declared Mark Maruszak Chairman of the Chamber Board. “We are privileged to have an outstanding rural hospital that effectively serves the healthcare needs of our community.”
Kaitlyn Ragsdale has been selected as the Chamber’s 2024 Employee of the Year for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and community impact as the External Relations Supervisor at Cripple Creek & Victor Mine (CC&V). Rising quickly through the ranks, Kaitlyn has played a vital role in strengthening communication between the mine and the community, managing CC&V’s $1.6 million Community Investment Program, and serving on multiple local boards. Amid industry changes, her steady leadership provided reassurance and stability, while her advocacy for underrepresented groups continues to make a lasting difference. Kaitlyn’s passion, integrity, and commitment exemplify what it means to be a true community leader. “Kaitlyn embodies the values of service, responsibility and community which are the characteristics sought for an Employee of the Year,” emphasized Chamber President Debbie Miller. “She is the quintessential employee that every business or organization aspires to hire.”
The 2024 Business of the Year is Hardcastle Home Services. They will be honored for their remarkable growth, community engagement, and dedication to workforce development. Founded in 2015 as a small family-run HVAC business, Hardcastle has expanded into plumbing, electrical, and generator services while maintaining a deep 3 commitment to giving back. They have actively supported local schools, first responders, and nonprofit organizations while pioneering hands-on trade education programs for students. Their move to a larger facility in 2024 has further enhanced their ability to serve the community through educational initiatives and expanded services. Hardcastle Home Services continues to set the standard for excellence, innovation, and community impact. “Hardcastle’s remarkable expansion and employee evolution serves as a prime example of successful business growth.,” noted Chairman Maruszak. “Their focus on giving back to the community, as well as working to bring our youth into the trades is remarkable.”

Lee Taylor has been selected as the 2024 Wagon Boss for his unwavering dedication to community service, leadership, and philanthropy. A true pillar of the community, Lee has spent countless hours supporting local nonprofits, mentoring future leaders, and championing initiatives that enhance the lives of those around him. His involvement in organizations such as the Kiwanis Club, local chambers, and various fundraising efforts has left a lasting impact on Woodland Park and beyond. Whether organizing charitable events, advocating for youth programs, or stepping up wherever help is needed, Lee’s selfless contributions exemplify the highest standards of civic responsibility.
