Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers announced today that the organization will begin to provide Downtown Partnership members Crime Stopper window signs to assist merchants and businesses in helping reduce crime in the area. The well-known “STOP” shield with the crime stopper phone number will begin to appear on windows and entrances throughout the downtown area.
“We are happy to share our STOP logo with downtown businesses. It acts as a deterrent to criminal acts like shoplifting, burglary, and assault,” said Don Addy, Chairman of the local Crime Stoppers non-profit. “Our program provides a phone number and website where citizens who witness or know of a crime can call and provide information and be totally anonymous and if an arrest occurs, we will pay a cash reward,” said Addy.
Downtown Partnership has a robust security system provided to all downtown businesses. “We work every day to make Downtown a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all,” said Chelsea Gondeck, Executive Director of Downtown BID. “We see this partnership as an opportunity to continue to enhance our safety efforts for all Downtown patrons and further support our storefront businesses.” This additional partnership will further enhance downtown Colorado Springs as a desirable shopping location and place to do business.
“We appreciate Crime Stoppers for what they do to help us serve our customers in a safe environment. We’re happy to display the Crime Stopper stop sign,” said Leah Riehl, co-owner of Terre Verde boutique in downtown Colorado Springs. “As a former police officer, I appreciate the value of Crime Stoppers in helping businesses operate safely. I commend the Downtown Partnership for this initiative,” Pat Rigdon, former owner of Mary’s Mountain Cookies at 7 S. Tejon and former Colorado Springs Police Deputy Chief said.
