Providing variety and inspiration is something that the soccer coaching staff works to include in training all season long. In the middle of their Spring Break training this season, the Panthers Girls Soccer team took a field trip to Weider Field in Colorado Springs – home of the Switchbacks professional soccer team.
The high school players got the opportunity to watch a full training session, followed by personal greetings and a conversation with the Switchbacks coaching staff! The experience was a huge hit with the players who eagerly asked questions after getting to see a glimpse of how professional workouts compare to their own experience as an athlete.
It brought new insight and perspective on how training sessions are designed, and it helped the athletes see how all the aspects of practice apply to performing well in competition. For most, it was a nice break from the rigorous routines of daily training, and for some, it may have fueled aspirations of taking soccer to the highest levels.
We would like to extend enthusiastic appreciation to the Switchbacks organization and their staff for the memorable experience. The Girls Soccer team will return to the stadium again soon to cheer on the professionals, thanks to group tickets provided as part of the experience… another opportunity to improve our knowledge of soccer while having fun alongside our teammates and families!
