More action for the Teller County Sheriff’s Office ensued last week when they received a call about a dead body in a remote area in the county.
The office received the call at around 1:15 p.m. last Tuesday saying that a body was found off of Gold Camp Road about four miles west of the El Paso County border.
The sheriff’s office located a body of an unknown black male between the ages of 18 and 24 off the side of the road. An autopsy then determined that the unidentified male died from a gunshot wound.
After the autopsy determined the cause of death, the sheriff’s office opened up a homicide investigation. “This is an open and active investigation. We are asking anyone that has any information related to this incident to please contact the Teller County Sheriff’s Office at 719-687-9652 and speak with a detective,” a press release issued by the sheriff’s office stated.
According to Public Information Officer Lieutenant Renee Bunting, no further information could be given at the end of last week. She said that further information surrounding the death and identification of the body would be released in the near future.
The last year has been an active time for homicides and suspicious deaths in Teller County, where these incidents rarely occur.
