2022 Events Planned in the Gold Camp District

The Gold Camp Association (GCA), a collection of non-profits, businesses, and government elements, will once again plan, organize, and hold events in the Gold Camp District during the 2022 calendar year.

The early and key members of the GCA are the Victor-Cripple Creek American Legion Post 171, the Two-Mile-High Club, Teller Rifles, the Victor Business Alliance, and the Victor Main Street Commission.  Other organizations pitch in on specific events that are in their area of interest.  All are welcome and encouraged to participate.  The GCA mission is to organize, promote, and conduct family-friendly events in the area for the benefit of the local non-profit organizations, area business owners, and the District’s economic development and sustainment.

When Cripple Creek’s city finances hit a 25-year low largely due to lost device fees, the GCA envisioned a new event business model starting in 2020 with the Aspen Tours.  The concept was to bring visitors to the District, have promotional packages with self-guided tour maps, list multiple dispersed stops throughout the District with tour-stop hosts, and bring economic benefit to the District.  The model was successful in raising $8,000 to feed and care for the donkeys during the 2020 winter.

The GCA applied the model again in 2021 and expanded it to conduct multiple events in both Cripple Creek and Victor with the cities providing traffic, toilet, and trash services and no direct event funding.  The Victor-Cripple Creek American Legion Post led the Gold Camp 4th with multiple venues throughout the District.  The Victor Business Alliance organized the WWII Memorial Dedication and the Victor Gold Rush Days.  The Two-Mile-High Club ran the Donkey Derby Days and Aspen Tours events.  The model was successful again with the non-profits and local businesses reporting beneficial visitor traffic and increased income.

The partial list of 2022 events include the Gold Camp 4th, Victor Gold Rush Days, Donkey Derby Days, the Aspen Tours, the Memorial Service at Mt. Pisgah cemetery, and the Christmas Season events with several others being planned and added to the growing list.  Many organizations in Cripple Creek and Victor are joining in to support the GCA effort as appropriate for their specific area of interest or event.  We are excited about the future and 2022!  The GCA members and associates list is growing, so please join in the fun.  More information will be forthcoming as the 2022 event plans and activities are worked and finalized.
