Similarities Discovered Between the Old Days of New Orleans and Cripple Creek

Dear Editor:

I sure enjoyed your article about the history of gambling in 19th century Colorado’s mountain towns (published in the Oct. 1 issue of TMJ).

As I read it, I noticed the similarities between life in those towns and the social life in Storyville, New Orleans from 1897 to 1917, especially the “fun girls, the brothels and the bars.

The mountain towns sure attracted a variety of people. When Bob Ford left Missouri, after killing Jesse James, he went to a western Colorado town, and lost his life there.

Thanks for the article.

  1. Ward
