9-11 Ceremony. The annual 9-11 ceremony will occur again at Lions Park in Woodland Park. The ceremony will feature first responders, veterans, elected officials and representatives of the WP School and members of the public. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 11 and will last about 45 minutes.
The Ute Pass-Woodland Park Kiwanis Club will meet on Wednesdays at 6:45 a.m. in the Crystola Roadhouse in Crystola.
TSC (Teller Senior Coalition) Transit is excited to announce our bus service on Wednesdays and Fridays in Woodland Park and the lower Ute Pass area. TSC also offers a joint venture with Cripple Creek Transit on Wednesdays to provide much needed transportation service between Cripple Creek and Woodland Park. TSC Transit will be picking up from the Senior Center and will be making stops at Pikes Peak Family Medicine, Pikes Peak Regional Hospital, City Market, Safeway, Walgreens, Walmart and the Department of Social Services upon request. In addition, new ride services are available on a limited basis to Green Mountain Falls, Cascade and Manitou Springs. The original nonprofit weight-loss group is an educational support group providing weekly weigh-ins and programs to help members to make positive changes in the role food plays in their lives. Links Fever. The Shining Mountain Golf Course and Bella Vista Bar and Grill is still open for the 2019 season, and for special events. 50s/60s Classic Rock FREE concert on the green. Scheduled for Saturday, September 14 at 11 a.m. at the Ute Pass Cultural Center’s Midland Pavilion, 210 E Midland Avenue, Woodland Park. The concert features The Nostalgics, Colorado’s premier doo-wop and oldies band, performing the great hits from early rock through the British invasion. All ages are welcome. Fossil Beds Activities. The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in Florissant is open year-round. The Monument is now open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There also are a number of special programs, guided hikes and special events for the month of September. Here are a few highlights for the month: *Saturday, September 14, Guided Hike on the Geologic Trail, 9:15 AM. Join Geologist Wayne Orlowski for 1.5 hour hike on the Geologic Trail. This hike will provide an in-depth look at the geologic processes that led to the formation of one of the richest fossil deposits in the world. You’ll cover about 2 miles, 300 feet of elevation gain, and over 1 billion years of history. Meet at the visitor center and bring sturdy hiking shoes, wear layers, and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.*Friday, September 20, Night Sky Program, 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Join park staff and members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society to gaze at the dark skies above Florissant Fossil Beds in search of planets, galaxies, nebulas, and more. Meet at the visitor center.*Saturday, September 28, Fee Free Day/Public Lands Day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Enjoy your public lands on National Public Lands Day free.*Elk Hikes, Friday, September 27 and Saturday September 28, 4:45 PM – 7:15 PM. Join a ranger for a RESERVATION ONLY evening hike, to listen to the magical sounds of elk bugling. These 1-2 mile, off-trail hikes and can be in rugged terrain at times. Meet and Greet. The town of Green Mountain Falls is holding a Community Potluck/Meet and Greet at the Sally Bush Building, 10795 Ute Pass Avenue, on Sept. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. The gathering will provide an opportunity to meet the new town manager, Angie Sprang, and the town staff. Plus, a CUSP Fire Mitigation presentation will occur at 6:30 p.m. to offer tips for protecting your property. Please bring a covered dish and your own place setting. Drinks will be provided by the Sallie Bush board.

Mueller Hikes and Activities. As the warmth of summer gives way to cooler nights, celebrate fall at Mueller State Park, as the forest turns golden! Typical weather in September at Mueller brings picture-perfect, blue-sky days. A full schedule of naturalist programs can help you to look, learn and enjoy the surroundings. Evening amphitheater programs will continue on weekends and guided hikes are available almost daily. Special programs this month include elk bugling hikes and fall challenge hikes! The Fall Challenge is an invitation to hike all the trails at Mueller, with a guide or on your own, about 60 miles, in one month! Folks that meet the challenge receive a certificate and prize for their accomplishment! On Saturday, September 28th is “Mueller in Gold” is around the peak of color at Mueller! Visitors can celebrate the changes in the forest with several hikes offer to view the spectacular scenery. All activities are free; a park pass for your vehicle is the only cost. Free Aspen Tours. This September and every September, join us the 2 Mile High Club for Aspen tours and watch the leaves change and as a result, benefit our free-roaming, donkey herd! The 2 Mile High Club’s Annual Aspen Tours will take place at the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot on Sept. 28 and Sept. 29. Marvel at the beautiful fall colors and explore the World’s Greatest Gold Camp! Aspen Tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis–reservations will not be accepted. The first tour departs each morning at 9 a.m. from the Train Depot Parking Lot. If you would like to be a part of the first tour, please plan to arrive 30 minutes to 45 minutes prior. Tours depart every 30 minutes and last about 50 minutes. The last tour departs at 3:30 p.m.Our Aspen tours are FREE, but donations are appreciated. All proceeds gathered from the Aspen Tours go towards the care of Cripple Creek’s free-roaming donkey herd. Stories at the Strong. Victor’s historic Strong Mine and hard rock mining will be the center of attention on Saturday, Oct. 5. Stories at the Strong: A Day of Tall Tales & Mining History will be held at the 1899 mine site. The event is sponsored by the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum. The day will begin at 11 a.m. with check in at the gate. The day will feature a chance to see the surface plant and hoist house of the Strong Mine. Two Mile High Mining Company owner Jim Watson will provide a historical presentation. The cost of the event, benefiting the museum, is $10 per person with children under 5 free.Tickets can be reserved on line at VictorMuseum.com or purchased at the museum or at the gate the day of the event by cash only. The Strong Mine is located just off Diamond Avenue on Victor’s north side.
