I would like to take a minute and thank both the Mountain Jackpot and the Pikes Peak Courier for their recent articles on the renovation of the Veterans Hall in Woodland Park. It is truly an awesome project that we have been struggling with for a few years and to see it very near completion is great. I will invite you both out again when the renovation is complete and we have moved in.
Also the annual Memorial Day weekend activities are: Saturday 28 May starting at 10 am the Thomas E. Kelly VFW Post 6051 and Eric V. Dickson American Legion Post 1980 will place flags on Veterans graves in the Woodland Park Cemetery (the public is invited to assist) followed by moving up to the Mountain Memorials cremains cemetery off of Edlow road, then a check of cemeteries in Westcreek, Divide and Cripple Creek; a VFW Buddy Poppy Drive will be conducted at City Market on Sunday 29 May starting at 10 am.
Proceeds from the Buddy Poppy donations help fund local VFW programs throughout the year; And finally, on Monday 30 May at 7 am the Legion and VFW will place flags in Lion’s Park followed by a short ceremony at the main flagpole. At 10 am in the Woodland Park Cemetery the VFW and American Legion will hold it’s annual Memorial Day graveside ceremony. The public is encouraged to attend.
