Merry Christmas- Murph Unleashed

“For we must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill, the eyes of all people are upon us; so that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall shame the faces of many of God’s worthy servants, and cause their prayers to be turned into curses . . .”—John Winthrop, aboard the Arbella, 1630
Christmas, that time of year when men and women are of good cheer, when they can afford it. My wife and I have plenty of shopping to do with a plethora of kids and grandkids. I don’t look at Christmas as just a time for the giving of gifts, I look at it as a time for renewal and the love of a savior sent to us by a creator who loves us. Christmas is so commercialized, but it helps the economy keep moving along
Religion confuses me badly, that’s why I don’t subscribe to any one way. But in this case hope and change are a strategy. I hope all of you look at what changes you can make in your lives to promote peace and good will on earth. That is always my number one wish for Christmas “peace on earth, goodwill toward men”.
We as a people have been very blessed. Our forefathers built a nation upon the basis of freedom, of liberty, and eschewing the blessings of a creator, that few seem to know this day. It is sad that man puts his faith in other men for whatever reason. Especially when those men are “the government” who so many look to, to save them from the slings and arrows of the drudgery, or poverty, or terrorism, or anything else for that matter that is life. I myself place my hope in a creator who has sent a savior for our spiritual well-being. That is one thing that does make me happy, the government or anyone else can take many things from me, but they cannot steal my spirit, nor my will to be free. I maintain a spirit to strive for a better life, to spread good will, and to be whom and what I wish to be. I wish more people had the moral courage and fortitude to do the right thing. With the reduction in the belief of a higher authority, or other worldly consequences, where is the incentive to do right?
If we continue down the road we are on Christmas could become an outlawed tradition. Religion could be an outlawed institution. So where would we the people draw the line? If I don’t believe in the teachings of the Good Book does that mean I can run amok? So many of our values are based upon the rights and wrongs taught to us by the word of he who is, written down thousands of years ago.
Sometimes my musings and meanderings through the bible and history books that portend future happenings from stories and tales of days gone by. I wonder what it was like back then and try and see how the parallels affect us today. Parallels in history are interesting to say the least. One thing I did was to read the Declaration of Independence. The parallels of what King George did to the colonist in the list of grievances and the things Obama has done to the American people today are fascinating to say the least.
If everyone were pacifists life might be okay. But, not all men are pacifists, just as all men are not warriors. Therein lies the danger, as there are men who are wolves and concerned only with their selfish plans for others. I don’t know if those wolves can be stopped with love and kindness. For the wolf will stay at bay for only so long as you slate his appetite at your own expense. When we can no longer feed the wolf he will still come. Even at Christmas time. Only the warriors stand a chance at survival. The pacifist get eaten.
Today America faces many challenges after an inept leader has attempted to usurp the American Dream and our way of life. He has destabilized the Middle East, he has done things which have made common people poorer (Obamacare), and enriched the coffers of the insurance companies. Our liberty wains this Christmas as I watch the news pundits extoll the virtue of a police state with little innocuous statements as “Social media sites should report terrorist activities”. Social media people are probably ill trained to do so, and would report anyone railing against what they perceive as injustice, meted out by our robber baron government, as potential terrorist. One of the really cool things I see the media asking folks on the street is “Which candidate will keep you safest from terrorism?” People answer as though they actually believe that the government would actually protect them from anything. Yes, pre-emption is a methodology to a degree, but at the end of the day, YOU, and only YOU, can truly protect yourself from terrorism by educating and informing yourself and being ready to protect yourself.
It would be nice if we could depend on others to take absolute care of us from cradle to grave. That would be lovely, but reality is much, much different. Truth is a pill everyone says they want, but few people are willing to swallow. Truth and reality get in the way of idealistic attitudes and beliefs all the time. Because so many people are unwilling to face truth and reality, unwilling to teach their kids the way of right and good, we see where America is being lead today.
This Christmas, do yourself a favor and teach your kids the true meaning of Christmas, the true meaning of love and understanding and giving to others. I look at Christmas as being all about mankind and the sacrifice made for us all through the birth of a savior. I know it can be perplexing but check out the story of Christmas and what it actually meant to mankind.
I will be giving gifts, I will also be passing on the story of love and kindness. I will be urging people to take responsibility for themselves as they have the choice of free will. I will also be explaining the consequences of wrong choices and how there is a personal responsibility to bear for those choices. I will pray for wisdom of how to pass on wisdom, one of the greatest gifts that can be given any person.
I think if there would be a re-awakening of spirituality, not religion, but true spirituality, that this nation and our people could be healed. The spirit of kindness, tempered with the wisdom that the wolves will come to the door demanding ever more, and that sometimes the right thing to do is not always the most savory course of action. Go forth and teach truth and be the light you wish to see.
I understand that the world is full of darkness these days but we ourselves can be the light, but tempered with his wisdom.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men. ~ Luke 2: 13-14
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”—Jesus, from the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:14-16.
