Here We Go….Again
“I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves, (A)nd if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power.” Thomas Jefferson
I so often sit and wonder what we, meaning the general populace, really know. It came to mind tonight just how little we really know and how much we “think” we know. If I think it does it make it so? No, nope, naw, uh-uh….and again no. Sitting in a local eatery I overheard a young lady make mention of a play she had acted in, she looked to be in her late teens or her early twenties. She wasn’t sure about when the play was written, but it was surely written back in the 70s or 80s. Well as many of us know the actual Reefer Madness, originally known as “Tell Your Children”, was a film produced in the late 1930s, 1936 to be exact. There may have been a play written in the 70s but there was definitely a musical produced in 1998 in good old “L-A”. But she didn’t know that there was a film produced that helped push the then governmental stance against marijuana which was in serious competition with the newly evolving big pharmaceutical industry, cotton, which was king in the south, and the pulp wood paper industry.
It got me to thinking about how much we really know. What do we really know, and what does anyone really know about anything. The more I study the law and the constitution, the more I realize that I was severely under educated as a student.
But more importantly, I see us as the U.S., us Mericans, being dealt with in a more and more dictatorial manner all the time. The President is taking actions that are clearly illegal on the subject of immigration. Not really anything that hasn’t been done in the past by Ronald Reagan. The difference is that congress approved the amnesty brought on by Reagan. Obama has had no such luck. He thinks that a simple dictatorial decree is enough to make things happen. How many people actually understand why Obama’s actions are illegal? If they don’t know, then they don’t understand the separation of powers laid out in the constitution that prevent the President (executive office), the congress (the legislative branch) or the Courts (the judiciary), from simply changing law at their own whim anytime that any one of them see fit.
Then we have the situation where our war that both Bush II and Obama say is not a religious war with ISIL, ISIS, or whatever you want to call them, along with the Wahhabi’s, the Jihadist, the Taliban, and every other Muslim extremist group look at as a religious war of absolute subjugation of all other peoples who don’t share their beliefs. How many folks actually know that our own government is importing thousands of Muslim “refugees” from other countries because…..because…..because we don’t know why. A spokesperson for the current administration said it’s because those good Muslims who are actually peace loving can’t find good jobs over there and they really have nothing else to do but air their grievances in a war like fashion.
Do we understand the implications of having Muslims appointed to positions of authority within our Department of Homeland Security? Two Muslims were appointed to One of the two appointees has a long record of working in law enforcement under both Republicans and Democrats. According to an April 24, 2009, press release from the Department of Homeland Security, Arif Alikhan was appointed assistant secretary for policy development by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. But what folks also don’t know is that Arif Alikhan was a senior Department of Justice aide under the Bush II Administration. The second appointee is Kareem Shora, who describes himself as a “Muslim American.” His appointment to a non-policy-making advisory position was announced June 5, 2009. He first became a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council along with 15 others — including Gary Hart, a former U.S. senator who was a member of the 9/11 commission, and Bill Webster, who was director of the CIA and FBI. The council makes recommendations on various homeland security issues, but members have no policy-making authority. No we won’t know the implications for a long time until all the discussions become declassified and we can then see the recommendations, actions implemented, and the ultimate results thereof.
Do we really know whether Obama is Muslim or Christian? Not really, I mean there are plenty of clips where Obama actually extols the virtues of Islam and at some points he is even filmed talking about his Muslim faith. Me personally I don’t care what Obama is as long as he is held to answer for his transgressions in accordance with the law.
Today after years of working for the government, and having been privy to many of their little secrets, I will simply say that most of us know very little about lot and a lot about very little. The government even compartments the different sections of the same operations so that the only the highest level people know the whole story. I mean even Harry Truman didn’t know that the atomic bomb was being developed until after Roosevelt’s death. So it’s not like it’s a new thing, the government’s attempts at keeping those of us who are the unwashed masses quietly and contently in the dark. Burden folks with enough taxes, laws, and regulation and then folks have little or no time to contemplate what is really going on in the world.
The good old government has a knack at keeping things and us under control. I can’t really say it is a conspiracy with any on man knowing everything, but things can sure be funny sometimes.
Here’s one for you, Woodland Park and Teller County has a drug problem. And I am not talking about weed, I am talking about meth (Hitler’s Revenge), heroine, which I believe is probably funding not only gang and terrorist activity, but, may well be funding our own government operations in certain areas, and of course good old cocaine. I am a person who is a believer that whatever folks do in the privacy of their own homes is their own business, but the real problem is that the stuff is really big with our kids in high school. We even have gangs vying for the area and having little competitions for “turf” up here in our quiet little mountain towns. It’s just stuff that is kept pretty hush, hush by our own local government. I guess if we ignore it hard enough it might just go away.
Then when it comes down to brass tacks many folks have no clue as to what the constitution and all the laws we have on the books are really all about. Liberty is the freedom to act to protect yourself and what is yours. Though there are those folks who won’t tell you the truth no matter what, there are those who seek it out. To get to the truth, you have to really give it some effort. But there again time is money and money costs time.
But the government knows what it needs to do to keep things relatively peaceful is to give us a boogey man to fear, give us someone to hate, and then someone to loathe. If you have to spend most of your time working to pay your taxes and survive then you also have very little time to seek the truth. But what is the truth? Well, the truth always changes and it depends on which one angle you look at the facts. Most people wanna just be left alone to make a living; they don’t wanna clutter their little brains with facts and figures.
So what do we know…..yup, not much at the end of the day. Peace all, and you might want to get educated, never can tell when a little useless knowledge might come in handy.
“[F]or avoiding the extremes of despotism or anarchy . . . the only ground of hope must be on the morals of the people. I believe that religion is the only solid base of morals and that morals are the only possible support of free governments. [T]herefore education should teach the precepts of religion and the duties of man towards God.” Gouverneur Morris, Penman and Signer of the Constitution.
