The Thin Air Theater Company will surely brighten your holiday season as they sing and dance their way through Winter Wonderland, their latest show at the Butte Theater in Cripple Creek.
Two new-to-the-Butte performers, Drew Frady and Jennifer Poarch, star in the leading roles of Richard Crosby and Mary Galloway. The action begins when Crosby and his theater troop get stranded in his old home town of Wonderland, New Hampshire on their way to New York City for an important performance. Soon Crosby must choose between a quiet life in rural New England with the girl he left behind or one last chance for fame and fortune in the big city with his ambitious, tippling fiancé.
Some of the stand-out moments of the play include Jeanne Brei as Sophia singing “I Don’t Want To Be Thin”, Drew Frady as Richard Crosby singing “A Pretty Girl Is Just Like A Pretty Tune”, and Jennifer Poarch as Mary Galloway singing “Look for the Silver Lining.” Levi Penley as Mark and Jen Morris as Samantha provide comic relief that will make you laugh out loud. The medley of traditional Christmas songs performed by the whole cast at the end of the show will have you humming all the way home.
One thing that always makes holiday performances at the Butte a hit is that they give local youth performers the opportunity to perform with the professional cast. This year Amber Woodside, Dawson Murray, Ariel Marie Johns, Shawna Seals, Lauryn Petrowski, Sicily Romero, and Klaryssa Murray all do an excellent job in their roles as war orphans taken in by Mary Galloway. First time performer, Dawson Murray, does a wonderful job on the song “Never Can Tell About A Woman” with Frady and Nick Madson as Cliff Odekirk.
