A pinched nerve causing pain? Aching hip joints? Persistent headaches? All of these problems and much more can be improved without drugs through the good work of Dr. Cheryl Steen of Active Life Chiropractic and Acupuncture. I know, because these are all problems she has successfully helped me with. If you have problems stemming from the misalignment of your muscles and bones, she could help you too.

Dr. Cheryl Steen is the only health care practitioner in Woodland Park who does both needleless acupuncture and chiropractic. She studied and learned both disciplines together, and uses a unique blend of Eastern and Western healing techniques. She is able to analyze the alignment of bones and muscles as well as evaluate the flow of chi meridians. Her two different ways of looking at the body are applied together to effectively help her clients improve the quality of their lives.

If you are not familiar with chiropractic care, it is a system of health care that carefully analyses bones, muscles, and nerves, and seeks to restore function to places where they are not working together properly. Dr. Steen uses a hand held tool called an activator to relieve areas that are stiff and tender, not moving smoothly, or catching when you move. While chiropractors often focus on the back, the system can be used to improve function almost anywhere in the body.

“The average chiropractic adjustment involves putting the body into odd positions and applying force to create a “pop”. I don’t do that. I use an adjusting tool called an activator. This is a spring loaded hammer, so fast and focused, it can actually reposition bones and quiet trigger points in 1/300 of a second,” said Dr. Steen.

In addition to her skills as a chiropractor, Dr. Steen uses her knowledge of Eastern healing traditions to release blocked energy within the body. Energy or chi can be brought into balance by toning it up or down at key points called meridians. Many of these meridians correspond with the master control points used by chiropractors.

If you are curious to learn more, but unsure about trying something new, this winter you can experience Dr. Steen’s skills while helping a worthy cause. Active Life Chiropractic and Acupuncture is offering a series of fundraisers for local charities on the last Saturday of every month. Dr. Steen will give a chiropractic adjustment or an acu-stim meridian balancing in exchange for a donation to charity.

The fundraisers will be held on February 22, March 29, April 26, and May 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The charities who will benefit are the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter, the American Cancer Society, Community Cupboard, and the Little Chapel of the Hills Food Pantry.

Active Life Chiropractic and Acupuncture is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 808 West Browning in Woodland Park. Look for the little blue building to the north of Foxworth Galbraith with Boney Toney, the big wooden skeleton, in the front. You can also visit www.activelifechiro.info or call (719) 687-7600.
