Mary Sue Bebee Thomas 84 died June 13, 2013 in Colorado Springs with her family by her side. Sue was born in Victor, CO, on September 1, 1928, to Alfred Henry Bebee Sr. and Nettye Barber (Nicholson) Bebee. She grew up roaming the area of Gold Hill. Sue graduated from Victor High School in 1946; Stephens College in Columbia, MO; and attended the University of Colorado.
Sue married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Corky) Thomas on August 7, 1948; they we married 61 years. They raised their children in Cripple Creek, Slick Rock, Rifle and Glenwood Springs.
Sue was a homemaker, worked at the “Cripple Creek Gold Rush,” and co-owned family businesses in Colorado and California before retiring to Cañon City in 1999. She resided at The Medalion in Colorado Springs, from September 2010 until her death.
Sue loved fishing and camping, grew beautiful roses and iris, and treasured her toy poodles, Tally, Andy and Tony. She was a family history buff. She was an avid Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies, and CU Buffs fan. Sue loved to read, enjoyed music, and crossword puzzles. She had a wonderful smile, brilliant blue eyes, a keen sense of humor, and loved her oysters on the half shell!
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Deborah Lee Thomas Hebert; son-in-law, Jerry Hebert; her nephew, Alfred Bebee; and three brothers, Alfred H. Bebee, Jr. (Wilda); John N. Bebee, and Eben R. Bebee. Sue is survived by her children, Cynthia S. Thomas (Robert Vaage) of Anthem, AZ; and Terry Thomas of Colorado Springs; her nieces, Christine Bebee (James) Keener, Lynda Bebee Dwornik, and Kathryn Bebee (Terry) Nash; and her nephew, Mark (Beverly) Bebee; great nephews, Aaron (Jennifer) Bebee and Brian Bebee.
A memorial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs September 27 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Sunnyside Cemetery Fund, in C/O City of Victor at P.O. Box 86, Victor, CO 80860.
