Every four years our region, the Heart of Colorado, hosts Rural Philanthropy Days (RPD). This event brings many private and government grant makers to our region to learn about the great things we are doing and open up funding opportunities for our community. It is also packed with training and educational opportunities for our non-profits. One of the most awesome outcomes of this event is that local volunteers from Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, Park and Teller Counties come together to make a difference.
Along with the local volunteer commitment comes support from local sponsors and vendors which help make the event successful and also highlight our amazing region. This year promises local entertainers, local food and a tour of beautiful downtown Salida as participants attend events in locations along the Arkansas River. In Teller County most non-profit agencies have been positively impacted by RPD, through building relationships with funders and receiving grant awards because of these relationships. In addition, RPD provides a platform to build networks with others in the region.
The Pikes Peak Regional Hospital Foundation established funding for the Hospital through the 2004 RPD and the CC-V RE-1 School Based Health Center was awarded funding to build the Mountain Health Center through the relationships forged at RPD in 2008. Our region’s non-profits find greater success by finding grants to diversify funding and build capacity for projects, programs and services. This event is a powerful way for all non-profits to get direct access to people and resources which help bring funding to our area.
