Tuesday, Nov. 11

Yoga. Community yoga classes are scheduled at the Church in the Wildwood on Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. and another class is slated for Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.  These popular classes are led by Beth Knox and Lainie Thomas.

Happy Veterans Day.  A number of government offices will be closed.  Thank you for all of our many veterans in the region, and for your heroic service. For special tributes, please visit a special column in TMJ this week, authored by Teller County Commission Chairman Dan Williams, a combat veteran himself who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and who represents several key veteran-related organizations in the area.

Wednesday, Nov. 12

Wellness Walk. Scheduled for Oct. 29 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at 9 a.m. Meet at the upper level and choose a one, two or three-mile hike. Maps are available. Healthy living tips and mindfulness exercises are available to enhance your walk. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Free admission.

Community Concert. The Ute Pass Cultural Center hosts a FREE Community Concert every 2nd Wednesday of the month. The next concert is scheduled for Nov. 12 and it features Pippa’s Fling. This band has been playing vintage, modern jazz across the Front Range since 2010. Founded by Woodland Park residents and professional musicians, pianist Mark Bovee and vocalist Christi Bovee, along with their drummer, Brian Hobson, and upright bass player, Andy Burtschi, Pippa’s Fling plays music that is sure to get your feet dancing. Their set lists include favorite jazz standards of yesteryear, as well as their own modern compositions performed with a vintage twist. Woodies Bar will be open and a Food Truck will be available for some delicious food. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. in the main floor of the Cultural Center, and the concert will occur from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, visit the city’s website.

Thursday, Nov. 13

TOPS. Takes Off Pounds Sensibly.  Meets every Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in the Church in the Wildwood (10585 Ute Pass Ave.) Green Mountain Falls, CO 80819. Affordable, effective weight-loss.

The Woodland Park Planning Commission will meet on Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the WP Council Chambers, next to city hall. The meeting is available in-person or on Zoom.

Saturday, Nov. 15

Cup of Christmas Tea. Scheduled for Nov. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is a fundraiser for the Community of Caring/Aspen Mine Center. At this event an individual or group hosts a table for 6-8 guests. The host is responsible for inviting friends, decorating the table and bringing food for their guests. The Community of Caring/Aspen Mine Center provides tea and drinks. There will be drawings for door prizes and entertainment. Tickets are 15.00/person. Music concerts. Upcoming live music concerts at the Chamonix Casino Hotel in Cripple Creek for the next month include Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Saturday, November 15, Wallen & Wilson Tribute on November 29, The Malpass Brothers on December 13, and Collective Groove on December 20. Sunday, Nov. 16

NFL Football Action. This is the week we have been waiting for all season, the Broncos versus the Chiefs.  Game time is 2:25 p.m. at Empower Field at Mile High on Nov. 16.  This one is definitely not one to miss at your favorite local sports bar or eatery, as both teams have hearty fan bases.  So, don’t be afraid to get loud and rowdy, as the action should get lively. These duels have provided great football drama, and this year, it could have extra meaning if you are a Broncos fan.

Teller County Assessor Talk. Join us for an Assessor’s Meeting focused on agricultural classification in Teller County, featuring updates from both

Chamber Business After Hours is Teller County’s largest networking event. Woodland Park Farmers Market Holiday Market.  Scheduled for Nov. 22 from 11:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Ute Pass Cultural Center. Good way to gear up for the Yuletide season. There is something for everyone at our annual Holiday Market! Live Music, Food and Crafts. Colorado winter produce, mushrooms, greens, eggs, and meats. Specialty foods (pickled products, spices, jams and jellies, teas, coffees, chocolate, granola and juices). Baked goods. Food trucks. American Red Cross Baby Sitter Boot Camp. Sponsored by the city of  Woodland Park, our full-day Babysitter Boot Camp on November 25 from 8 AM – 5 PM gives youth ages 11–17 the skills to care for children and infants, make smart decisions, and be great role models. Each participant will receive a CPR mask and earn an Infant CPR certification. Please bring a lunch. Pre-registration is required. Visit the city of Woodland Park’s website for more details.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner.  Scheduled at the Aspen Mine Center East building in Cripple Creek on Nov. 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This has turned into one of the biggest community-gatherings, prior to the Christmas season.  A genuine pre-Thanksgiving feast is provided due to the help of many volunteers.  This event is for community building, connection support and service. At the dinner we take time to come together as a community to prepare and serve Thanksgiving meals for those in need. Volunteers can bring food including turkeys and sides, serve and drive meals for those who cannot get to the AMC east building.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. This popular event in Cripple Creek will be held Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. at Pocket Park on Bennett Ave, right next to city hall. Gather with neighbors and friends as we light the community Christmas tree and kick off the holiday season. The evening features the following: Santa’s visit for photos and seasonal cheer; Festive drinks for kids and adults; Carolers spreading classic holiday melodies; Cozy fire pits to keep warm; S’mores and tasty treats and more festive surprises.
