Woodland Park Wind Symphony

Under the direction of Craig Harms, the Woodland Park Wind Symphony is excited to be performing its 4th concert in the beautiful Shockley-Zalabak Theater this Sunday (Sept. 28) at the ENT Center for Performing Arts at UCCS.  The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m.

This theater venue offers a prime opportunity for local residents to see and hear the amazing Woodland Park Wind Symphony perform in an incredible setting, showcasing some unprecedented acoustic and video features.

This concert hall is designed to feel intimate for musicians and audience and incorporates technically advanced features for light and sound – providing a wonderful musical experience for all who attend.

The theme of this concert is to introduce individual Wind Symphony musicians to the audience. Per Craig Harms, Musical Director and Conductor, “each Woodland Park Wind Symphony member is a treasure to our musical family.”   As the audience enters the concert hall, a pre-concert video, prepared by Craig Harms, will showcase Wind Symphony members and their love of music, family and friends.

A new concert feature in 2025 will be a video enhancement to the Wind Symphony’s performance of “Mars,” from “The Planets” by Gustav Holst, showcasing photos of galaxies and nebula.  These incredible photos were taken by Wind Symphony clarinetist, Chris Kjeldsen.  Chris uses the following equipment: Sky Watcher EQ6-R Pro Equatorial Go-To Mount;  ZWO ASI2600MM Pro USB 3.0 Cooled Mono Astronomy Camera; and Explore Scientific 127mm FCD100 f/7.5 ED APO Triplet Refractor Telescope.  Per Chris, each image takes 40-50 hours to capture and 10 hours to process. The targets are anywhere from 100s of light-years away to 50+ million light-years.

Two Wind Symphony members will be featured soloists:  Danielle Park, Trombone/voice, performing to “Blue Moon;” Paul Frampton, Euphonium, performing to “Rhapsody for Euphonium.”

Wind Symphony clarinetist Krysta Heshelman, a music graduate student at UCCS, has composed a piece for the Wind Symphony, “Colors of the Night,” which is being performed for the first time.

Due to the generosity of Wind Symphony sponsors, the Ute Pass Symphony Guild and a grant from VENU Arts & Cultural Foundation, tickets are affordable:  FREE for students of any age and $10 (plus $2.75 fee) for adults.  This is a great opportunity to hear a live performance in this incredible venue.
