Final Week for Beehive Musical.  The Butte Theater in Cripple Creek has entered the final week or so for the summer musical, “Beehive.” Make sure you don’t miss it, if you haven’t seen the show. This is a 60s musical that runs until August 31, and highlights many familiar tunes and memories from this  magical decade.  Heavily recommended by TMJ, as the Butte’s summer musicals are regarded as some of their most popular shows. For more information, and for show times, visit the Butte Theater website or call 719-689-6402.

Upcoming

Fall Sports and Football Preview.  Check out TMJ’s special Fall Sports and Football Preview, showcasing what the Panthers and other local teams have to offer, along with the mighty Broncos (Super Bowl this year?) with the beginning of another NFL season. Plus, there is always Coach Prime for additional college football entertainment.  This special edition is available on August 26.  Any local business or nonprofit group interested in participating in this edition, email us immediately at editor@mountainjackpot.com. or call our advertising/marketing representatives directly at 719-761-9489, 719-640-0656 or 580-222-9503. This is a good opportunity to support your local, school athletic fall programs, not to  mention a time to celebrate a little Pigskin fever.

Shining Mountain Summer Activities.  The Shining Mountain golf course in Woodland Park is fully open for the 2025 links season. The spacious bar is open for a variety of events, and occasionally features live music.  The SM facility also is the host for Ute Pass Kiwanis Bingo nights. Drink specials are available, and check with regular promotions online and in this newspaper.  More special events are now available. Several of the golf leagues have already kicked off official play for the season, and there are a slew of charity events, including an upcoming tourney in Sept. to support the high school golf team. Coming soon will be SM’s  popular scramble tourneys, available for all levels of play. For more information regarding tee times (weather permitting) and regular activities, call 719-687-7587.

Victor Celebrates the Arts. This annual and popular festival occurs on Labor Day weekend, with much of the real live artistic action even occurring before this time. All paintings in the Victor Celebrates The Arts (VCTA) Show & Sale will be painted en plein air – on site, directly from life – within a 10-mile radius of Victor City Hall during the week before the show and sale. We are looking forward to celebrating VCTA’s 25th anniversary as “Plein Air” artists from around the country gather to paint on location in our historic town.  Professional and Emerging artists participate in painting various scenes in and around the City of Victor and many nearby legendary 1890s gold mining sites.  Our show is judged by an established and respected professional artist, and original works produced for the show will be available for sale in the gallery. All are welcome at this exciting and unique event!  As in previous years, we expect dozens of artists to participate, with more than 20 awards to be presented, with total cash prizes of over $4,000.  Thousands of visitors from many states attend the show and enjoy watching the artists painting around Victor. The final art show will be held Aug. 30, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the Elks Lodge.  A number of other events, aimed at welcoming the artists, are held prior to Labor Day weekend. Visit their website at vistorcelebratesthearts.org for more information.
