Mountain Jackpot Editor’s Note: (The following statement, released by the city of Cripple Creek, deals with the recent arrest of 46-year-old Nicholas Madson, who worked at CIVA Charter High School in Colorado Springs, on a felony charge for soliciting a child for unlawful sexual conduct using computer services. The arrest was recently made by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) following information from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) in Florida, based on media reports.
Besides his involvement with the charter high school, Madson also was the founder and executive producer of the Colorado Springs-based Green Glass Productions, which had been awarded a contract for doing three of the Butte Theater’s main theatrical productions for its summer, fall and winter season. That contract has now been completely severed, with one week remaining for its fall melodrama show and the entire forthcoming Christmas performance, Winter Wonderettes, which debuts in late November and extends through the beginning of 2027).

“The city of Cripple Creek and the Butte Theatre are aware of the recent arrest of Nicholas Madson, owner of Green Glass Productions, and the serious allegations associated with this matter.
Upon learning of the situation, the city of Cripple Creek and the Butte Theatre acted swiftly to separate Green Glass Productions and Nicholas Madson from all ongoing operations and productions at the Butte Theatre.
The city and the Butte Theatre take these allegations extremely seriously. The safety and well-being of our performers, staff, patrons, and community remain our highest priorities.
To ensure continuity of the Theatre’s professional season, the city and the Butte Theatre have made arrangements with another professional theatre production company to assume responsibility for the remaining scheduled performances of Sweeney! The Demon Barber of Cripple Creek and the upcoming production of Winter Wonderettes.

“Our priority was to respond immediately and responsibly while ensuring that the Butte Theatre could continue serving our community,” said Zack Sztanyo, Butte Theatre Manager. “We moved quickly to separate the Theatre from Green Glass Productions and establish a path forward for our remaining productions. We remain committed to providing a safe, professional environment for everyone involved.“
The Butte Theatre’s remaining 2026 productions will move forward as scheduled, according to Sztanyo.
The city of Cripple Creek and the Butte Theatre recognize the seriousness of the ongoing legal proceedings and will cooperate with law enforcement should assistance be requested. Out of respect for the legal process, no further comment will be made regarding the allegations at this time.
“We appreciate the continued support of our performers, patrons, and community as the Butte Theatre moves forward with its professional season,” stated city officials.
According to an earlier Butte Theater brochure that announced the 2026 schedule, Green Glass Productions has been involved or was planning to do three of the town’s main shows, including the Dames at Sea musical, Sweeney! The Demon Barber of Cripple Creek, considered a world-premiere, dark comedy melodrama, and Winter Wonderettes, a holiday show.

Only one week remains for the fall show. But this week is one of the main focal times for the performance, as it occurs during Halloween weekend. In the past, the Halloween weekend is considered a prime time to see the fall performance, especially for local residents, due to the highly touted spooky elements. In addition, the forthcoming Christmas performance is regarded as the most popular of the Butte’s theatrical shows, with many performances recording sell-out crowds.”
