Defending Super Bowl Champs Challenge Broncos on Thursday Night

Chiefs and Chargers Face Off; Bills Battle Raiders

 Trevor Phipps

Well, I think it’s honest to say the Broncos have looked less than impressive lately. I am personally disappointed after such a stellar season last year. In fact, the Broncs look like a different team in 2026.

I hoped that they would improve this year with the changes that were made, but I’m just not seeing it. They have shown the ability to come back in a game, but like I have said earlier, they are going to have to do more than that to be successful with their tough schedule this season.

The offense needs to get better at handling the run. If they can score more points on the ground, it could take some pressure off QB Bo Nix.

The defense also needs to tighten up a bit. Even though they have played good offensive teams, I have just seen too many missed tackles and plays where it seemed like there were no defenders around.

I also think the play calling needs some work. The run plays called don’t seem to be working. Whether it’s Sean Payton or Offensive Coordinator Davis Webb, a more aggressive style needs to occur, like immediately.

The passes seem to work, but I still see a lot of short pass plays that don’t amount too much. The offense needs to do a better job of spreading out and getting receivers open deep down the field.

But hopefully, the team will learn to adapt. With such a tough first six games, the Broncos still have a chance of ending the season on a high note if they can squeak out one more win during their first six games.

Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos, Thursday 6:15 p.m.

This match does have the making of a good game. If it were played in Seattle I might think differently, but at home the Broncs should give the Hawks a run for their money.

Although the Seahawks may not be the stellar team that won the Super Bowl last year, they still look pretty good. Their defense is once again stellar as they are tied with the Vikings as the best in the league.

After the first four games, the Seahawks have put up some elite numbers by only allowing an average of 4.0 yards per game. They also have a low third down conversion rate of 23.1 percent.

Overall, I just don’t think the Broncos will pick up a win this week. The Broncos’ offense so far has just not impressed me, and I don’t think they will look very good against one of the best defenses in the league.

Trevor’s Pick: Seattle Seahawks 24, Denver Broncos 16

Vegas Line: Seahawks by 2.5.

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday 2:25 p.m.

Normally, I would say that this matchup would be one of the best games of the week. But let’s face it, the Chargers have just not got it together this year.

After their 0-4 start many of the league’s talking heads believe the team is done. When I asked Google the chances of a team starting 0-4 and still making the playoffs, Google answered that it is “extremely rare.”

In fact, it has only been done once in the history of the league. But the good news for Charger fans is that they were the team that did it the only time this occurred. This was in 1992 when they finished the season 11-5 and won the AFC West after a 0-4 start. But does anyone think they could really do it again?

The Chiefs on the other hand looked way better than I thought. The addition of Kenneth Walker III has really fueled the team’s offense.

In the end, I’m going to have to agree that the Chargers’ season is basically over. I don’t think there is a very good chance at all that they can beat the Chiefs at home.

Trevor’s Pick: Kansas City Chiefs 37, Los Angeles Chargers 18

Vegas Line: Chiefs by 2.5.

Buffalo Bills at Las Vegas Raiders, Sunday 2:25 p.m.

Personally, I think this match will be a better game to watch than the Chiefs vs. Chargers bout. The Raiders look like a new team altogether and I think the Bills are still really tough.

The Raiders had a good run to start the season, and they even came close to beating the Chiefs in Week 4. Their new QB has really brought a new surge to the Raiders’ offense.

However, I think it is still way too early in the season to count out the Bills. The team has looked good all season and we all know that QB Josh Allen really wants a Super Bowl ring badly.

Overall, I believe the Bills’ offense will just be too much for the Raiders to handle. Besides, the Bills averaged 31.8 points per game during their first four matches.

Trevor’s Pick: Buffalo Bills 44, Las Vegas Raiders 28

Vegas Line: Bills by 6.5.
