Tales From a Local Animal Healer

Editor’s Note. Animal abuse is a growing problem in Colorado and Teller County, despite our reputation as a pet-friendly area. The following is a column from an animal communicator, based in Woodland Park. If you have similar stories, feel free to share these experiences with the column author. Also, remember there are available resources for unwanted pets, or those who can’t take care of their special canine or feline, such as the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter in Divide. TMJ News strongly supports efforts to enhance better animal welfare in our region.

A Miraculous Rescue From Sure Death in the Desert

~By Barbara G. Royal, Animal Communicator~

Can a dog found completely feral in the New Mexico desert learn to trust, play, and welcome love?

The answer is a resounding YES! But it takes a Village to achieve this outcome.

In the summer of 2023, a young pup named Miranda and her brother were rescued from the harsh desert elements by the incredible team at DAGSHIP (Deming Animal Gardens Rescue) in Deming Nex Mexico.

Tragically, her brother passed away shortly after rescue, leaving Miranda not only grieving but deeply traumatized.

For months, she exhibited classic feral behavior—showing intense avoidance, severe shaking, and a profound fear of human contact.

While the dedicated shelter volunteers poured their hearts into her physical rehabilitation and leash training, a bridge was needed to help Miranda release the deep-seated emotional trauma wired into her nervous system.

That is where the power of long-distance energy work stepped in.

The Power of EFT  (Emotional Freedom Technique)

Invited by a fellow animal advocate, I began working remotely with Miranda using what we animal healers classify as Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique). By accessing specific acupressure points long-distance, EFT works directly with the nervous system to shift stuck behavioral patterns, dissolve fear responses, and clear emotional trauma.

But the energy work doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It requires a dedicated team on the ground to anchor that transformation.

To reinforce the remote session, the DAGSHIP team implemented a daily protocol of positive affirmations, repeating to Miranda several times a day with these special learning goals.

*You are safe with people.

*You can trust.

*You are free to love and be loved.

By combining daily emotional reinforcement with remote trauma-release work, Miranda’s evolution has been nothing short of miraculous.

The End Results of Holistic Rehabilitation.

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Miranda has entirely stopped shaking.

𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭: She now willingly places her chin in volunteers’ hands for affection and    allows herself to be picked up and cuddled.

𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Once isolated by fear, she now confidently plays and harmonizes with both large and small dogs daily.

𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Her body language reflects a dog who realizes she is no longer a survivor of the desert, but a cherished member of a community.

It Takes A Village

This beautiful breakthrough is a testament to what happens when compassionate physical care meets intentional energetic healing. Remote healing processes only thrive when anchored by an aligned, dedicated team or individual on the ground.

I wish to give a massive, heartfelt thank you to the extraordinary volunteers at DAGSHIP. Thank you for your trust, your consistency, and your open hearts.

Miranda is now radiating harmony and stepping beautifully into her readiness for a forever home. Her journey continues to inspire and inform my current work in helping animals release trauma, proving that distance is never a barrier to healing.
