If you got a taste of the winter blues and want a great culinary escape, a trip to Joanie’s Deli & Bakery may just be what the doctor ordered.
It’s no secret that Joanie’s offers deluxe sandwiches and salads that have become the talk of the town. However, Joanie’s is also a fine way to start the day.
In fact, often overlooked is Joanie’s amazing early-morning treats, capped by award-winning scones, muffins, French macaroons, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, a Tiramisu, and a whole lineup of unique pastries. More recently, the popular deli even hired a special pastry chef to further tempt early-morning goers. Co-owner John Hugh also raves about Joanie’s freshly-brewed coffee, which definitely competes with the servings at the town’s hefty lineup of prized java hangouts.
For those with an extra sweet tooth John heavily suggests their freshly-baked cookies (How many places are sported with Cowboy Cookies) and Coconut Cream pies, Ghirardelli brownies, and more. Only problem, sample some of these offerings, and you probably won’t want to leave.
That’s not a bad situation, as Joanie’s prides itself in sporting a comfortable, semi-heated, dog-friendly deck, and outside patio. Not surprisingly the patio is big hit this year due to our “Indian winter,” highlighted by trophy-level views of Pikes Peak that remain unrivaled.
Joanie’s continues to expand its offerings and has become much more than just a sandwich deli. It now offers special plates for any occasion, or for any gathering.
And for Bronco fans who want to see this weekend’s Division Championship contest at home or at a friend’s house, Joanie’s offers an enticing Game Day Plate, (Sweet or Savory, depending on your tastes.) They can’t assure this plate will assure a Bronco victory, but it’s a great way to partake in the game action.
Of course, Joanie’s is still infamous for its lunch-time and early afternoon sandwiches, a prime reason Joanie’s has been rated as the Best Lunch spot on The Mountain by several local newspapers. The selections provided are amazing, running the gamut from a Smoked Salmon and French Quarter meal to a more traditional Gourmet Club and Turkey Melt. There is no shortage of selections with 20-plus lunch possibilities. Also, check out their daily specials.
Plus, Joanie’s offers Gluten free bread, Gluten free wraps, and vegan cheese available to customers, upon request. They also offer a full-service bar for those who want adult beverages.
The current owners, John Hugh and Cathy Olson, have held the reins of Joanie’s since the summer of 2024. They actually fell in love with the spot following a vacation to the area.
In addition, John Hugh is strongly involved with the local community, serving on the board of the Woodland Park Downtown Development Authority. Cathy Olson, meanwhile, has played a key role in some of the menu enhancements and design changes. For more information, call 719-686-9091.
