Bring on the Cheeseheads, and Home Sweet Home.
After several weeks on the road, the Denver Broncos are back in the saddle at Empower Field in a square-off with the Green Bay Packers, which have a strong following in our quaint little sports kingdom. Game time is Sunday at 2:25 p.m., a perfect time for a beverage of choice and hearty meal at your favorite local sports bar, and hangout.
Yes, we hate to keep using this endless cliché: But every game is a playoff contest now, with the Broncs’ having their best shot at gaining the Number One AFC Seed in the playoffs in years, as they continue their quest for their first AFC West Division title in a decade.
Standing in their way is the Pack, which have an amazing tradition, dating from the old Vince Lombardi Days of the 1960s. In fact, our head coach, Sean Payton, has a few Vince qualities himself, when it comes to team discipline and a no-nonsense approach.
But sorry, beloved Cheeseheads, we love your energy. However, this is not a time for rekindling history and tradition and past legacies. We want a clear path to the Super Bowl, which can happen this year for the Broncs. 2025 is the year of no real dominant teams in the NFL, so even with a faulty offense at times, and Bo Nix being Bo (who still is only a second-year quarterback), the Broncos got a decent chance at a trip to California in Feb. 2026. The Broncs, unlike past years, have found a way to win, even when they don’t have their best stuff.
But for those who crave tradition, the series between these two teams is practically dead even, at 8-7-1 in favor of Denver. The most notable win for the Broncos occurred in the 1998 Super Bowl game, when the Broncs snagged their first world championship title in an absolute thriller, despite being heavy under-dogs going into the game. That one still gives us goosebumps, as it became a magic moment for Bronco great John Elway. The last time these two teams faced was in 2023, in a game that has virtually no meaning.
The stakes are mighty high, this time, as the Broncos head into the grand finale of their schedule with no letup in tough opponents. A win against the Pack could come close to sealing this up for playoff prospects.
If you are looking for a great place to enjoy Broncos’ games and all the NFL slug matches, head to McGinty’s Wood Oven Pub in Divide, the sponsor of our fine NFL Page and Broncos’ preview. McGinty’s, with their sports bar setup, offers a prime opportunity to view nearly all of the NFL games and partake in some great game food and drink specials. McGinty’s also sports a loyal group of Bronco fans and some enthusiastic cynics too.
Another prime spot is Jess’ Place in Woodland Park, which sports a rowdy NFL atmosphere, especially if you root for the wrong teams.
Besides the Broncos’ game, plenty of great matchups are in store this week, such as Sunday’s late morning battle between the Bills and Patriots.
Enjoy Week 15 and Go Broncos.
