A Heartfelt Farewell to The Honorable Milford Ashworth

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that the Cripple Creek community acknowledges the passing of our respected former Mayor Milford Ashworth.

Mr. Ashworth served as Councilmember for the City from November 2009 through December 2017 and as Mayor from November 2019 until he resigned in September 2023 to move out of the area to be closer to family.
He was a devoted public servant whose commitment to Cripple Creek was evident in everything he did. His leadership, passion for our history, and vision for our future helped guide our community. He worked tirelessly to ensure Cripple Creek remained a vibrant, welcoming, and historic place to live and visit.

We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Ashworth family and all who knew and respected him. His legacy of service and dedication will not be forgotten.

 

Milford Ashworth, Jr. Obituary

Milford Richard Ashworth, Jr., 87, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away, October 18, 2025 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born March 20, 1938 in Evansville, IN to the late Milford and Geneva (Essary) Ashworth.

Milford graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1956 and served in the Army Reserve from 1956 until 1964. He was a hardworking man who spent his career farming, working in the trucking industry, and later owning and operating Ashworth Excavating Inc. Milford was elected Mayor of Cripple Creek, Colorado, serving two terms, and also served on the Cripple Creek City Council, first in 2009 and again in 2017. Milford founded the “Top of the World” Rodeo in Cripple Creek.

Milford served on the Board of Peoples Bank and Trust Co. in Mt. Vernon and was a founding member of Keck Gonnerman Antique Machinery Association. He was also a member of the Posey County Ducks Unlimited, Elks Lodge #277, and the American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5.

He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Kennedy Rae Felsher; son, Tony Ashworth; son-in-law, Benny Turner; brother, Gary Ashworth; and brother-in-law, Gerald Althoff.

Milford is survived by his loving wife, Yvetta (Althoff) Ashworth; children, Julie Turner, Janica Felsher (Kennedy), Jaina Paciorkowski (Don), Robert Webb (Leah) and Jason Ashworth; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Mike Ashworth; brother-in-law, Edward Althoff; sisters-in-law, Trudy Keach (Jim), MaLinda Caze (Fred) and Tina Glaser (Tony); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Kennedy Felsher officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
