Last March, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) launched a massive highway widening project along Hwy. 67 on the north side of Woodland Park. Ever since then, traffic has experienced periodic delays and a fair amount of confusion has ensued.
The lanes have been narrowed and re-routed, with some motorists not sure if they should get off the highway altogether. It has also created major delays for those trying to access the Shining Mountain Golf course, and even the county’s Woodland Park offices.
Well, apparently the delays aren’t over.
Earlier this month, the city of Woodland Park announced that CDOT would be starting a second road construction project in the same area. In the next few weeks, CDOT plans to complete mill, overlay, and striping of Hwy. 67 from the intersection of Hwy. 24 through Evergreen Heights Dr. and County Rd
The city said that the new project (that is slated to be complete at the end of this month), will cause additional traffic disruptions. The second project will require detours that are subject to change on a daily basis.
“We understand the traffic disruptions can be challenging,” the city stated in a social media post. “Please allow for additional travel time and follow signage to navigate detours safely. We appreciate the public’s patience as CDOT completes the necessary improvements.”
The initial project, which started in March, was originally supposed to be completed by the end of November. However, officials have said the project could take longer than originally planned.
