Vehicle Fire Forces Closure of Teller County Road

On Oct. 3 just before 6 p.m., the Teller County Sheriff’s Office sent out an alert stating that County Road 61 (also known as Four Mile Road between Divide and Cripple Creek) was closed in its entirety. The road remained closed in both directions for more than an hour due to what authorities described as a vehicle fire.

During a recent Teller County commissioners meeting, Commission Chairman Dan Williams outlined personal details about the incident that occurred near his home. Williams said he was returning home that evening when he was stopped by Teller County Sheriff deputies, who alerted him that a car was on fire.

According to Williams, the person involved in the accident didn’t suffer any injuries and the fire did not spread from the vehicle. “It was a late model car and she had been looking at the leaves all day on our roads, and of course, you know how our roads are this time of the year with the rain and everything,” Williams said. “And then something happened to her car when she hit a bunch of bumps and something sparked under her hood, and she jumped out. So, if you drive by there today you will still see this gigantic wet, greasy, oily spot. And, I was there long enough to see what was left of her car.”
