Yoga. Community yoga classes are scheduled at the Church in the Wildwood on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. and a newly-started class on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. All the classes occur in the church’s Tatter Hall area. These popular classes are led by Lainie Thomas.
Wednesday, August 13
Wellness Walk. Scheduled for August 13 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at 9 a.m. Meet at the upper level and choose a one, two or three-mile hike. Maps are available. Healthy living tips and mindfulness exercises to enhance your walk. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Free admission.
Free Community Concert at UPCC. The Ute Pass Cultural Center will host Randy Stephens and the Groove Makers for a community concert on Wednesday, August 13. They feature blues, classic rock, funky originals and cover music. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 6 p.m. Plus, Woodies Bar is open, plus a food truck will be available. The concert is free. Bring a blanket or chair because the concert is held outside on the lawn. If the weather does not cooperate, this show will move indoors. The Woodland Park Planning Commission will meet on August 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the WP Council Chambers, next to city hall. The meeting is available in-person and on Zoom.

Beehive Musical. The Butte Theater in Cripple Creek now features its summer musical, “Beehive.” This is a 60s musical that runs until August 31 and highlights many familiar tunes and memories from this magical decade. Heavily recommended by TMJ, as the Butte’s summer musicals are regarded as some of their most popular shows. Golfing with the Sheriff. The Shining Mountain Golf Course will feature the annual Teller Law Enforcement Week Golf Tournament on Friday, August 15. It is hosted by the Teller County Honorary Deputy Sheriff Association (HDSA) as a major fundraising event for a group that helps out the agency enormously. This is one of the most popular golf tournaments of the summer, featuring a scramble (best ball) format and overall fun atmosphere. The tourney begins at 7:30 a.m. TMJ New has sported a team again, a fact that has apparently sparked much interest in the tournament, who want to see what disaster will occur for TMJ on the links. Salute to American Veterans Rally. Southern Teller’s largest event is returning to Cripple Creek for a slew of veteran-related tributes, ceremonies and festivities. The two-day Rally is scheduled from Aug. 15-16 and will include once again the popular POW-MIA recognition motorcycle ride between Woodland Park and Cripple Creek. This will mark the 33rd year the rally and festival has occurred in Teller County. Popular events include the veterans’ parade and patriotic ceremonies at City Park and the concert on Friday night. Pikes Peak Memorial Wall Ceremony. Hosted by the city of Cripple Creek, this event is organized by the American Legion Post #171 which featured Ring the Bell for Freedom traveling exhibit. Survivors and friends of those who died in battle are invited to sign the book in honor of a loved one. The members have collected more than 30 pages of names in an album, which honors the memory and services by friends and family dating from the Spanish-American War. The event is scheduled on Aug. 17 at noon at the Mt. Pisgah ceremony, just outside of Cripple Creek. The Wall project originated from the 9/11 terror attacks, and marks another major tribute done to honor military veterans. For more information, call 719-270-1999.

Shining Mountain Summer Activities. The Shining Mountain golf course in Woodland Park is fully open for the 2025 links season. The spacious bar is open for a variety of events and occasionally features live music. The SM facility also is the host for Ute Pass Kiwanis Bingo nights. Drink specials are available, and check with regular promotions online and in this newspaper. More special events are now available. Several of the golf leagues have already kicked off official play for the season, and there is a slew of charity events, including the Teller County Sheriff’s tournament on August 15. Visit With Ghosts of the Past. This event is sponsored by the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum and will be held at 10 a.m. on select Saturdays from June through October, weather allowing. Check VictorMuseum.com for schedules and information. Local historian Alicia Harrington will guide you through the cemetery telling stories of grave robbers, insurance fraud, and unusual characters. Meet just outside the gate in Pauper’s Field by 10 a.m. You can also purchase tickets at the museum ahead of the event. Advance reservations are encouraged and can be made at VictorMuseum.com. Tickets at the gate are by cash only. Tickets are $15 for a single ticket and $12.50 per additional ticket. Be sure to dress appropriately for mountain weather (which can include wind, cold temperatures, snow, and rain), wear good hiking shoes or boots, and bring water and sunscreen. There are no restroom facilities at the cemetery.
