Tuesday, July 1

Yoga. Community yoga classes are scheduled at the Church in the Wildwood on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. and a newly-started class on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m.  All the classes occur in the church’s Tatter Hall area. These popular classes are led by Lainie Thomas.

The Green Mountain Falls Board of Trustees will meet on July 1 at 7 p.m. at the GMF Town Hall. The meeting is available in-person or online by accessing the town’s website.

Wednesday, July 2

Wellness Walk. Scheduled for June 18 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at 9 a.m. Meet at the upper level and choose a one, two or three-mile hike. Maps are available. Healthy living tips and mindfulness exercises to enhance your walk. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Free admission.

The Cripple Creek City Council will meet on July 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the CC Council Chambers. The meeting is available in-person and on Zoom.

Thursday, July 3

TOPS. Takes Off Pounds Sensibly.  Meets every Thursday morning at 9 a.m. in the basement of Church in the Wildwood (10585 Ute Pass Ave.) Green Mountain Falls, CO 80819. Affordable, effective weight-loss.

Friday, July 4

Colorado Colleen Show.  Classic melodrama has arrived at the Butte Theater again. This summer’s show, which continues until July 13, is a melodrama by Chris Sorensen and a brand-new Olio!  Young Harrison Logan is in love with Irish Dance Hall girl Eily O’Connor, better known as The Colorado Colleen. However, the evil Angus Flagg holds the mortgage to his family home and threatens to seize the property for lack of payment. Harrison’s mother wants him to forget about Eily and marry his rich cousin Anne Chute to save the family home. Will Harrison be able to thwart Mr. Flagg and win Eily in the end? The show is produced by Chameleon Arts & Entertainment. Independence Day Celebrations on The Mountain.  The towns of  Cripple Creek, Woodland Park and Green Mountain Fall will be holding festive Independence Day celebrations. Woodland Park will have its Old Fashion July 4th Celebration in Memorial Park with a spree of games and patriotic displays and the Symphony Above the Clouds concert, while Cripple Creek features events throughout the day, live music and one of the best fireworks show in southern Colorado. Meanwhile, Green Mountain Falls will showcase its annual Green Box Arts Festival, with several Block Parties.  See related story in this week’s TMJ for more details.

Saturday, July 5

America’s Mountain Festival. A hefty lineup of national performers and popular acts in the country-rock genre will take center stage in downtown Woodland Park at the Woodland Station area, near the  site of the multi-million Tava House development project. .The inaugural event will feature such performers as Ned Ledoux, Michael Martin Murphey, Jon Wolfe and Curtis Grimes. Shining Mountain Summer Activities.  The Shining Mountain golf course in Woodland Park is now open for the 2025 links season. The spacious bar is open for a variety of events   The SM facility also is the host for Ute Pass Kiwanis Bingo nights. Drink specials are available, and check with regular promotions online and in this newspaper.  More special events are now available. Several of the golf leagues have already kicked off official play for the season, and there are a slew of charity events. Green Box Arts Festival.  A full lineup of live cultural and dance performances community events, hikes, art displays, educational classes and more will occur from now through July 12 in Green Mountain Fall as part of Green Box Arts Festival. For more information, visit Green Box Arts.org.
Chamber Golf Tournament. The Woodland Park Chamber of Commerce will host its annual golf tournament on July 9 at the Shining Mountain Golf Course. This tourney is a scramble format, with four-person teams. Visit With Ghosts of the Past. This event is sponsored by the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum and will be held at 10 a.m. on select Saturdays from June through October, weather allowing. Check VictorMuseum.com for schedules and information. Local historian Alicia Harrington will guide you through the cemetery telling stories of grave robbers, insurance fraud, and unusual characters. Meet just outside the gate in Pauper’s Field by 10 a.m. You can also purchase tickets at the museum ahead of the event. Advance reservations are encouraged and can be made at VictorMuseum.com. Tickets at the gate are by cash only. Tickets are $15 for a single ticket and $12.50 per additional ticket. Be sure to dress appropriately for mountain weather (which can include wind, cold temperatures, snow, and rain), wear good hiking shoes or boots, and bring water and sunscreen. There are no restroom facilities at the cemetery.

History Talks. The Cripple Creek Heritage Center will host a few upcoming history talks with Sherry Skye Stuart, showcasing “Forgotten Female Felons,” set for July 12; and Linda Wommack (a relative of the  legendary Bob Wommack), doing a presentation on July 19. Beehive Debut.  The Butte Theater in Cripple Creek will debut its summer musical, “Beehive,” on the weekend of July 18-20. This is a 60s musical that runs until August 31.

Victor Gold Rush Days.  Regarded as one of the best festivals in southern Teller County, Victor Gold Rush Days in Victor will occur from July 18-20. The several day festival is abuzz with a spree of games, festivities and historic tours, aimed at reliving Victor’s illustrious past.
