With their alluring combination of incredible Colorado wines, spirits, beers, steak and pairing nights and a slew of award-winning entrees, the special Wine and Buffalo Burger at Wines Of Colorado (WOC) is a culinary favorite that is sometimes overlooked. And if you get a chance, sample one of the prime local favorites: A plate of Buffalo Lasagna that will tantalize your taste buds and satisfy your culinary desires for days.
In TMJ’s view, the Buffalo and Wine Burger is one of the best meat picks on the mountain, featuring entrees that the current and past operators of the popular Cascade eatery have mastered and crafted into a mini-art form. They offer a combination of Old Colorado and a rare supply of award-winning Ground Angus, resulting in championship-level burgers of the highest level. In addition, WOC rounds out their burger choices with the Zebulon Pike and South of the Peaks plates. Both the Wine and Buffalo Burger dishes helped put WOC on the culinary map years ago. And under the ownership of Arin DeMay, who took the reins of the establishment in 2021. these offerings have only gotten better, with the addition of tasty Colorado wines and beers, and many culinary improvements at WOC.
One combination TMJ would suggest is either a Wine or Buffalo Burger with a glass or two of Pinot Noir, Colorado Cellar wine. This is a combination that TMJ Editor Rick often suggests to new customers and even media critics; and yes, one he tries on many occasions. This unique Palisades brand of Pinot Noir was almost designed for the WOC Wine and Buffalo Burgers.
But if unsure about Colorado wines, which are great supplement for food entrées and mesh well with many entrees, check out the Wine Flight suggestions, displayed visibly at many tables or on the historic bar top. Or better yet, ask for drink suggestions from the knowledgeable staff, or Arin himself, who enjoys conversing with customers and unveiling a few colorful stories.
The Colorado Cellar is also a great supplement for one of the prime locals’ favorite, Buffalo Lasagna. Forget grandma’s recipe for Italian dishes, as this is the REAL THING.
But WOC offers so much more than great burgers and Italian dishes. In the recent Best Of contest, sponsored by TMJ News, WOC won handily as the premiere establishment in the region for Seafood (definitely try their salmon) and the eatery with the Best Restaurant Atmosphere. Spend an afternoon or evening there, and you can see why. They also shined in numerous culinary competitions, including Best Steak (You haven’t lived until you conquer one of their prized Ribeye, trophy dishes on Thursday’s Steak nights) and Best Restaurant in the region.
And with spring fever approaching, deck seating by the creek is a premium. Just make sure to make reservations, as this area fills up fast with the advent of tourist season. For more information, call 719-684-0900 for reservations. Check out the WOC Facebook page for updates on special meals.
