The combination of trivia games, award-winning, mega steaks, special pairing and holiday meals, not to mention incredible Colorado wines, spirits, beers and a slew of favorite entrees, is a hard tradition to rival.
But for Wines of Colorado (WOC) this is the standard for overcoming the winter blues in the Ute Pass high country. During the winter months, the Cascade eatery has gained much allure for its Trivia and Steak nights.
“These are both very popular,” admitted Miriah Mulholland, the WOC restaurant manager. She notes that during the winter the restaurant enhances its offerings with special nights and dinners. In fact, a special pairing meal, usually sponsored by a Colorado winery and showcasing a number of unique culinary courses and drinks, is held once a month.
Trivia Night are slated for Wednesdays, starting at 7 p.m., and are highlighted by prizes, food and overall fun. The spots in the bar and lounge area fill up fast, so call for reservations. The trivia contests abound with a special theme for one of the rounds, and then general trivia questions. For example, last Wednesday’s trivia session featured Disney and general themes. Occasionally, a special appetizer is available for trivia-goers, to help them make the right picks. Trivia Nights, which have really taken off at WOC for the last year and a half, are traditionally held from October through early May.
Then, on Thursday evenings, it is the WOC’s infamous Steak Nights, a revered Cascade tradition that is extremely popular in the winter. On most occasions, a 14-ounce Ribeye trophy dish is served with different preparations of potatoes and vegetables, Sometimes, though, a New York Strip is showcased. For example, one of the recent steak night combos sported a mega steak with roasted garlic butter broccoli and Gorda mashed potatoes topped with Rosemary red wine, Demi glaze. Spectacular, and a culinary treat not to miss. The steaks are usually hand-cut by the restaurant owner himself, Arin De May, who frequently converses with the customers, and are specially crafted in-house. Steak Nights at WOC have occurred since the restaurant was reopened under a new management/ownership team, led by De May, and involving a huge revamp aimed at preserving this landmark establishment.
Steak nights start at 4 p.m. and extend until the restaurant closes. Reservations are heavily encouraged.
Special meals are a WOC trademark during the winter. In fact, the restaurant features one of the more popular Valentine gatherings in the area. This year’s Valentine’s Day at WOC will feature a special menu, capped by a wide selection of dishes, designed to delight everyone’s taste buds, and crafted to make a classy and romantic evening. Call 719-684-0900 for reservations.
And don’t forget their special pairing meals. The next one is scheduled for Feb. 18 and is sponsored by the Chill Switch Wines in Cedaredge. Check out the WOC Facebook page for updates.
