Alright, the Big Game is right around the corner.
As a result, it’s time to make preparations, unless you want to invest probably $30,000-plus, in a ticket at Caesars Superdome; and then there is the cost of a flight to the Big Easy and hotel accommodations. Maybe, you will survive Super Bowl LIX with your family or friends with a $50,000 tab. Have fun, as this is the 11th time New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl. Consequently, the price will escalate even further, just for the sake of Bourbon Street Party ethics.
Instead, we suggest enjoying the game in your own backyard, with the help of our abode of friendly restaurants, bars, casinos and gathering spots, and a more laid-back atmosphere. No fights like what transpired a couple of weeks back between a group of Philadelphia Eagle fanatics and a couple rooting for the Green Bay Packers. Ugly, ugly and ugly, but Philly and Green Bay fans will never change.
Next week (TMJ’s Feb. 4 edition) TMJ will partake in the Big Game festivities in grandiose style with our annual Super Bowl Picks’ Issue, showcasing the finest predictions from area politicians, community leaders, business operators, residents and a few area pigskin fans who may actually know what there are talking about. The grand title: Who is the best NFL Arm-Chair Quarterback and Super Bowl Predictor in the Region.
At the same time, we will outline some suggested local spots for witnessing this great spectacle.
Just a few unusual Super Bowl facts for your entertainment: *Super Bowl Sunday is the second-biggest eating day in the United States, after Thanksgiving. *The Super Bowl trophy is made of sterling silver and weighs seven pounds. The top of the trophy is designed to look like a football. * Despite growing equity in the league, the Browns, Lions, Texans, and Jaguars still reign as the only teams that have never played in a Super Bowl. *Super Bowl halftime shows can be controversial. The Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, sometimes called “Nipplegate” or “Janetgate,” was the kicker when Justin Timberlake tore off part of Janet Jackson’s clothing during the performance, an incident that even summoned a call to then President George W. Bush.
Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, we couldn’t announce the Super Bowl finalists due to our press deadline.
But if you are even a remote sports fan, you now know who will be in the final Dance, so place your wagers now.
As part of our annual tradition, we will feature a slew of local predictions and sponsor a contest for the top pick, with the grand winner announced in the following week. If you wish to participate, email us at editor@mountainjackpot.com. and give us your name, the team who you believe will win Super Bowl 59, the projected score (as good of a guess as you can provide) and your reasons for making this pick.
