Common Grounds Offers Much More Than Award-winning Java

The secret is out.

Common Grounds has become a prime community hangout in Cripple Creek, combining freshly-roasted coffee, featuring rare beans from the best java producing regions in the world, not to mention a much-touted humanitarian mission that empowers, poor, marginalized women across the globe; and yes, enticing breakfast and lunch items. More importantly, it has revived friendly and lively conversations back to this part of town and given new life to an area at the Aspen Mine Center (AMC) that sat dormant for years.  Give it a little time, and the old coffee shop in the AMC may regain its former status as one of the best rumor hubs in southern Teller.

As the saying goes and often proclaimed on their facebook page, “Coffee is the universal language.” Who can debate the merits of a Common Grounds cup of java, with special beans roasted-on-site from such countries as Peru, Rwanda and Guatemala.  Or maybe you may want to try an award-winning pasty or maybe a Spiced Chai Latte to kick-start the day.

But what many don’t realize are the amazing specials at Common Grounds that offer a rare variety or deluxe combination that is quite unique for the Creek gaming community. Each week throughout January, Common Grounds will feature a new lunch special. With the beginning of the new year, the Grounds added Irish Cream and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough syrups to their drink options.  Needless to say, this unlocks some fun combinations you can try.  As noted on the Common Grounds’ website, “Mix raspberry with that Irish Cream or Toasted Marshmallow. How about combining a little bit of chocolate and caramel syrups to the cookie dough to have a cookie sundae.”

Also, the Common Grounds recently brought back pork for their acclaimed green chili. At the end of last year, the Grounds gained much praise for their Sloppy Joes’ trophy-level sandwich, complete with a choice of “Cool Ranch or Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos.” They also added a number of special flavors for their drinks such as peppermint, brown sugar, cinnamon and maple. Their English Muffin and coffee combination also has become a big hit for those who may not crave a big breakfast.

But for hearty eaters, the stellar reviews are still coming in regarding the Common Grounds’ Breakfast Burritos, Quesadillas, Pulled Pork or their amazing freshly baked cinnamon rolls and cookies.

Yes, there is much more than freshly-roasted coffee at your beckoning at the Common Grounds Coffee Shop.  And stay tuned for longer and extended hours.

Plus, after sipping a great cup of java, or cappuccino or expresso, and indulging yourself in a special pastry treat, check out the adjoining thrift shop.

Currently, the Common Grounds Coffee Shop in the Aspen Mine Center is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday for breakfast and lunch.
