Wines of Colorado

With another Indian Summer invading the Ute Pass region this fall, one of the prime culinary hangouts for outdoor dining and just spectacular food, and beverages is Wines of Colorado in Cascade.

Wines of Colorado is located at the base of Pikes Peak off Hwy. 24, and offers stunning Creekside dining, and boasts of an absolute passion regarding Colorado wines, beers, and spirits.  The restaurant has sported a number of Best Of awards in a variety of publications, including best place for Fine Dining, Wine Bar, along with wine selections, burgers, steaks and much more.

Wines of Colorado featured a major revamp under the ownership of Dawn & Arin DeMay, who actually fell in love with the area six years ago while vacationing in Colorado. As noted by the couple in a post on their website, “We stopped in for wine and a bite to eat, sat right next to the creek, and instantly fell in love with Cascade! In fact, we moved here 6 months later; right up the road from Wines of Colorado.”

When an opportunity finally arrived, Dawn and Arin assumed the ownership reins and underwent a massive renovation project that adhered to the area’s historic traditions.

The end product has been the talk of the area for several years. “We have wonderful wines, beer and spirits, all from our beautiful state of Colorado. Our food is made with love, passion and dedication to serve all those that join us,” say the DeMays, who are known for their friendly demeanor and eagerness to converse with regular customers, even journalists from TMJ.

The amount of options at Wines of Colorado are endless. Some unique specialties and favorites of TMJ are the Thursday Night steak specials, featuring a 14-ounce Ribeye, served with different preparations of potatoes and vegetables each week. For example, one of the recent steak night combos sported a mega steak with roasted garlic butter broccoli and Gorda mashed potatoes topped with Rosemary red wine, Demi glaze. Spectacular.

And it’s hard to rival the restaurant’s Wine and Buffalo Burgers that are ideal for a Colorado Pino Noir, or Colorado brew.  In fact, with this combination, you may not leave.

Another favorite is the Ute Pass Meatloaf dinner, encompassing “Bacon-wrapped buffalo meatloaf served with gouda mashed potatoes and gravy. Fried onions and seasonal vegetables.  Words cannot describe how tasty this dish is.  Just like mom’s.”

For seafood buffs, try the salmon dinner. This is served with wild rice, seasonal vegetables, and dill sauce. and includes an option of grilled or blackened . In fact, many cynics who complain about the lack of quality of seafood, cite Wines of Colorado as an exception to this unfair stereotype.

A real favorite of TMJ Editor Rick is the Buffalo Lasagna, which won’t allow you go away hungry, and is an absolute rare culinary treat.

And if you are not sure what type of beverage to sample with this great food, the staff is extremely knowledgeable. Unsure about Colorado wines, we suggest you follow the suggested pairing list provided by co-owner Dawn. We guarantee that you won’t go wrong with Dawn’s picks.

Wines of Colorado is also a great place for gathering among family members and large groups.
