Tuesday, Sept. 10

The Woodland Park Downtown Development Authority will meet on Sept. 10 at 7:30 a.m. in the WP Council Chambers.

Shining Mountain Still Open For Play.  The Shining Mountain (SM) Golf Course in Woodland Park is still in full stride for their 2024 season, with daily tee times and play contingent on weather conditions.  The course is in great shape for the late-summer/early fall.  In addition, the driving range and chipping area/putting green is open, along with the spacious SM bar and outdoor patio. Some of the new happenings include Majestic Mondays, with great deals for 18-holes with a cart.  Some of the new links and social events are SM’s 9-hole Scramble tournaments and other social fun events. The Green Mountain Falls Planning Commission will meet on Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the GMF Town Hall.  The meeting is available in-person or on Zoom.

Wednesday, Sept. 11 
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.  An annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony, in honor of the victims and emergency responders who died in this horrific tragedy, will be held at Lions Park in Woodland Park at 9 a.m. See related article in this week’s TMJ.
Wellness Walk. Scheduled for Sept. 11 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at 9 a.m. Meet at the upper level and choose a one, two or three-mile hike. Maps are available. Healthy living tips and mindfulness exercises to enhance your walk. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Free admission.

Thursday, Sept. 12

TOPS. Takes Off Pounds Sensibly.  Meets every Thursday morning at 9 a.m. in the basement of Church in the Wildwood (10585 Ute Pass Ave.) Green Mountain Falls, CO 80819. Affordable, effective weight-loss.

Friday, Sept. 13

Scramble Fridays.  The Shining Mountain Golf Course will host their weekly co-ed Scramble 9-hole tournament.  Teams will be established based on skill or  no skill levels.  Designed as a fun get-together. For  more information and to sign up and for the specific tee-off times, call 719-687-7587.

Saturday, Sept. 1

Search for Big Foot Hike and Fundraiser for Friends of the Peak. Scheduled for Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. This is a laid-back, go-as-you-please event that entails a search by registered hikers for the mighty and semi-accessible (?) Pikes Peak Bigfoot. The hunt will take place on the north side of Pikes Peak, on the outskirts of the town Green Mountain Falls, in the foothills (Bratton-Dewey trail), infamously known to have sightings of the smelly beast. Think of this as geocaching and Where’s Waldo, with a hairy twist. Pre-registered participants will get a chance to win $500 worth of local non-cringy merch! Double Down For The Byway. Gold Belt Tour Scenic Byway is excited to host our 2nd Annual Disc Golf Tournament ‘DOUBLE DOWN FOR THE BYWAY’. The event, scheduled for Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be held at the fabulous Alta Vista Disc Golf Ranch just out of Victor. The tournament is a doubles format with a shotgun start on this unique disc golf course at 9400 feet. This event features a trophy buckle and cash prizes. Special prize  CTP on hole 16. All participants will receive a swag bag with gifts including a disc and t-shirt.  Additional door prizes available with purchase of ticket.  Lunch featuring local raised beef will be available for just $8.00 per player. It will be a delightful day to enjoy with your friends and family, while supporting an important non-profit. Mount Pisgah Speaks, Cemetery Tours. Scheduled for Sept. 21-22. Ghosts from the past come to life in this educational-but-slightly-creepy afternoon hosted by the Gold Camp Victorian Society. Learn who is buried in Mt. Pisgah and their history through live reenactments with a trolley ride to the cemetery! Tickets for the event can be purchased outside the Cripple Creek District Museum or advanced reservations can be made at info@goldcampvictoriansociety.org or 719-270-2504.  The trolley will pick up guests at the ticket booth and transport them to Mt. Pisgah Cemetery (only trolley passengers may participate) for their supernatural experience.  The hours for the tours this year are 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Trolleys will depart the Cripple Creek District Museum every 30 minutes.

Music at the Depot.  The live music carnival continues at the Cripple Creek District Museum with the third installment of the popular Music at the Depot series. The next concert series is set for Sept. 28 and features The Beloved Invaders for an outdoor show from 2 to 6 p.m.  The festivities, include a grand stage at the museum, a tent pavilion area and plenty of food and beer. Fall Festival. The Cripple Creek Fall Festival is being planned for the weekend of October 5 & 6, produced by the Two Mile High Club. There will be live music, a beer garden, fall themed adult beverages, a pie judging contest, chili cook off, fall photoshoots, vendors, professional wood carving displays/demonstrations, sculptures for sale, and more! This is a free event which is open to the general public.  Plan your trip to check out the fall colors and spend a little time enjoying Cripple Creek. All proceeds collected during the event will be used for the care and upkeep of our beloved wild donkey herd that roams the streets of Cripple Creek.  These descendants from the early days of mining are an example of the grit and determination of the founders of our great community.  Come and support the donkeys and enjoy a fun time in Cripple Creek.
