Shining Mountain Open For Play. The Shining Mountain Golf Course in Woodland Park has officially opened for its 2024 season, with tee times and daily play contingent on weather conditions. In addition, the driving range and chipping area/putting green is open, along with the SM bar. For more information, call 719-687-7587. A slew of charity tournaments is in the works, along with other links-related activities.
Magic: The Gathering. Come play with us! Bring your decks, bring your cards and your mats, and come battle at the Rampart Library District, 218 East Midland Avenue from 4 to 6 p.m. on select nights. It is open to teens and young adults, who visit the teen room at the library. The next gathering is scheduled for June 4. Interested in learning. Someone will be available to teach you the basics.
The Green Mountain Falls Board of Trustees will meet on June 4 at 7 p.m. in the GMF Town Hall. The meeting is available in-person and on Zoom.
Wednesday, June 5
Wellness Walk. Scheduled for June 5 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at 9 a.m. Meet at the upper level and choose a one, two or three-mile hike. Maps are available. Healthy living tips and mindfulness exercises to enhance your walk. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Free admission.

TOPS. Takes Off Pounds Sensibly. Meets every Thursday morning at 9 a.m. in the basement of Church in the Wildwood (10585 Ute Pass Ave.) Green Mountain Falls, CO 80819. Affordable, effective weight-loss.

Friday, June 7
Golfing with the Sheriff. The annual Teller County HDSA (Teller County Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association) tournament will be held on Friday, June 7 at Shining Mountain Golf Club, with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. This event, done in a best-ball scramble format, is one of the first major charity tournaments at SM this year. Proceeds benefit HDSA, which does a number of projects to benefit the sheriff’s department for more information and to register, call 719-687-9652.
Coffee Chats. Come have coffee, donuts, and chat with other people in the area. (This is your excuse to go make more local friends). This event, held in the Colorado room of the Woodland Park Public Library, is held the first Friday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The next Colorado Chats is scheduled for June 7. Top of the World Rodeo. Scheduled from June 7-9 mostly at the Teller County Fairgrounds and in Cripple Creek, with a parade and street dance scheduled for Saturday. Come enjoy rodeo at its best! Great venue, beautiful views, and elite competition. The Top of the World Rodeo is a Colorado Pro Rodeo Association (CPRA) sanctioned event. Events include Bareback Riding, Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Bull Riding, Mixed Team Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie Down Roping and a crowd favorite, Mutton Bustin. FREE HISTORIC TOURS! “Ambiance on the Red Trolley” is a FREE 30-minute historical tour of Cripple Creek. Join the Gold Camp Victorian Society on Saturdays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, from 1 to 3 p.m. to hear the fascinating history of the World’s Greatest Gold Camp. New Casino and Hotel. Chamonix Casino and Hotel, Cripple Creek’s new mega addition, which features about 300 rooms, and a spree resort-like amenities, such as a rooftop pool and spa, is now open for business in the initial stage. The Chamonix, part of Bronco Billy’s, features about 250 slots and table games. Check out the games and amazing lobby and the Chamonix Bistro. This is the first stage of a $300 million development, the largest project ever undertaken in Cripple Creek. It will encompass a 500,000-plus square-foot area, when fully completed. John Denver Tribute Concert. Please join us for this fundraising concert to support P.E.O.’s education for women programs. Mark Cormican will present this John Denver Tribute Concert with the look and comforting, familiar sounds of John Denver’s best. Scheduled for Sunday, June 9 at the Ute Pass Cultural Center. History Talk. Richard Sauers will be presenting, “Some of the Hidden History of Cripple Creek” June 15, 2024 at the Cripple Creek Heritage Center. The talk begins at 11 a.m. and lasts about an hour. There will be time for questions/answers, as well as an opportunity to review some rarely seen artifacts such as ore shipment books, maps, etc. The presentation is FREE and all ages are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. Sauers has been in the public history arena since 1984, currently serving as the curator of the Western Museum of Mining and Industry in Colorado Springs. Sauers has been a speaker at many historical organizations and conferences and was honored to be a part of the 1996 conference that developed a conservation plan for the Star-Spangled Banner. He is the author of more than two dozen books, many of which dealt with various aspects of the Civil War.

36th Annual Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup.
