The following is a press release submitted by the Woodland Park School District

On October 2, the Woodland Park School District (WPSD) unveiled preliminary enrollment data, highlighting the progress achieved by Merit Academy while addressing broader enrollment fluctuations across the district.

Merit Academy proudly reported a significant enrollment increase of 107 students, bringing its total enrollment for the current academic year to 438 students. This achievement underscores the dedicated efforts of Merit Academy’s staff and administration in creating an academically enriching environment for students.

Merit Academy’s growth does not fully offset the district’s modest decrease in enrollment, resulting in a net loss of 98 students. However, it’s worth noting that despite this decline, the district’s current enrollment levels remain higher than those from two years ago. This can be attributed in part to the inclusion of Merit Academy within the district, underlining its value and impact on the district.

Superintendent Ken Witt expressed optimism about WPSD’s future, stating, ‘We are proud of Merit Academy’s accomplishments, which serve as an inspiration to our entire district. We acknowledge significant changes, including the reconfiguration of 6th grade, may have impacted short-term enrollment. We remain committed to providing high-quality education to all our students and will continue to adapt and evolve to meet the changing needs of our community.’

The district remains committed to providing exceptional learning opportunities, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment, and collaborating with parents to address their children’s academic needs.

WPSD anticipates the release of official enrollment numbers and will provide further updates as they become available.
