The following is an athletic press release submitted by the Woodland Park School District
Cross Country – The Woodland Park High School cross country team continues to “Take the Next Step,” literally. On August 15th, the team traveled to a zipline and adventure course where all the athletes had to summon their courage to step off 30, 50, and 70 ft high platforms. Then they challenged themselves, and each other, on several Ninja Warrior type obstacles. After 3 hours on the adventure course and a stop for lunch, many of the runners then went for a 7 mile hike up and down a mountain.
Coach Jeremy Grier reflected on the day’s activities, “As a team bonding day, I could not have pictured a more perfect day. The bonds between our athletes became even tighter as they challenged and supported each other throughout the day.”
The cross country team will race again at the Norris Penrose Center on August 25th. Come out and cheer on our Panthers. Go Panthers!!
Softball – The Woodland Park High School softball team began their season this week, playing two games against playoff teams from last season. They opened the season with a 31-3 loss to Pine Creek in front of a fantastic crowd. Kendra Fish and Katie Roy shined, each driving in and scoring a run for the Panthers.
In game 2, the crowd showed up again. The Panthers played inspired ball, eventually falling to the Eagles from Pueblo East 22-18. Seniors Roy and Fish dazzled again at the plate. Junior Haddie Waak hit a triple, freshman Christine Renteria was solid at the plate and even more impressive on defense as our starting SS. Adey Hughes added three hits for the Panthers.
