Mountain Almanac for the Week of January 4

Tuesday, Jan. 4

The Green Mountain Falls Board of Trustees will kick off 2022 with their inaugural meeting, slated for Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. in the GMF Town Hall.  However, due to a new policy enacted by the board of trustees, the meeting will only be available in-person and not through Zoom. During the meeting, Town Manager Becky Frank and Town Clerk/Treasurer Nathan Scott will be sworn into office.

This week marks the return of regular meetings for  most governmental bodies in the area.

Wednesday, Jan. 5

Wellness Walk. Scheduled for Jan. 5  at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at 9 a.m. Meet at the lower level and choose a one, two or three-mile hike. Maps are available. Healthy living tips and mindfulness exercises to enhance your walk. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Free admission.

The Cripple Creek City Council will meet on Jan. 5 at 5:30 p.m. in the CC Council Chambers.

Thursday, Jan. 6

Cripple Creek  Senior Clubhouse. Held  every Tuesday and Thursday  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the dining room of the Aspen Mine Center, 166 E. Bennett Avenue in Cripple Creek. The Woodland Park City Council will meet on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. in the WP Council Chambers next to city hall.

The Shining Mountain  Golf Course and Event Center is closed for the season.  But the spacious facility is still open for events.  If interested in hosting your event at Shining Mountain, call 719-687-7587.

Friday, Jan. 7

Tree Recycling. The city of Woodland Park is happy to provide the citizens a free dumpster to recycle your Christmas trees in. Place your UNDECORATED tree in the dumpster behind City Hall, located off Lake and Pine Street. The tree dumpster will be available to the community December 27, 2021 through January 17, 2022. That’s good news for all of you procrastinators! Questions about tree recycling? Call 719 687 5293.

Best of Cripple Creek and The High Country Showdown.  The first round of voting for this annual contest, sponsored by TMJ and featuring nearly 100 categories, has hit full stride, with the first round of voting and nominations for key categories.  Voting will occur on www.mountainjackpot.com.
