WRCA-SANCTIONED “RIDE FOR THE BRAND RANCH RODEO” RETURNS TO NORRIS PENROSE EVENT CENTER

Ride for the Brand Ranch Rodeo proudly returns to the Norris Penrose Event Center on Saturday, August 7th.

Spectators get an insiders’ view of the work real ranch cowboys do every day to steward their herds, keep them safe and healthy and deliver them to market. These cowboys work all week on their ranches, sorting and moving cattle, starting colts, doctoring and branding calves and they ride for the legendary brands that still represent the heart of America’s livestock industry today.

Events include Ranch Bronc Riding, Stray Gathering and the fan favorites Wild Cow Milking and Trailer Loading.

Wild Cow Milking – One person horseback and three team members on foot pursue a cow into the arena.  The roper on horseback chases and ropes the cow. The three teammates then grab the cow and one designated teammate milks the cow into an empty bottle. When the milker believes they have enough milk, they run to a circle to meet with the judge. The timer stops when the milker enters the circle. The judge will pour the milk to verify the time. No milk – no time. The team that can get all of this done the fastest wins.

Trailer Loading – The final event of the rodeo begins with a herd of cattle at the far end of the arena. The team rides in and must sort their numbered cow out of the herd, push only that cow across the line, then rope it. That’s when the fun begins!  The team must then load the cow, who really doesn’t want to be in the trailer, into the trailer, get two horses loaded into the trailer, close the trailer doors, and then all four people must be in the cab of the pick-up with the doors closed for time to be called. The team who can do all of this in the shortest amount of time wins.

Live music and dancing follow an evening of great rodeo action with the Dance in the Dirt featuring Jason Wulf & Friends.

ABOUT RIDE FOR THE BRAND RANCH RODEO

Ride for the Brand is the largest ranch rodeo sanctioned by the Working Ranch Cowboys Association and showcases the daily duties of real working cowboys and their peers. Proceeds benefit local ranchers and their families through the WRCA Foundation’s Scholarship Fund, Cowboy Crisis Fund & Wildlife Relief Fund, as well as several local military charities.  Ride for the Brand was formed in 2003 to showcase Colorado-grown local ranch cowboys and to give back to the foundations that support them.
