Steve Achord was born on November 1, 1950 in Colorado Springs and lived in Tarryall (Puma City) his entire life. His parents, Elmer and Maxine (Fossett) Achord, built a log home there and had saw mill sets in the surrounding area thru the late 1960s.
Steve went to elementary school in Lake George, then on to Woodland Park, where he graduated in 1968. He was drafted into the Army in 1969 and went to Viet Nam, returning in September of 1971.
He married his childhood friend, Shelly Pat Wiggans, on September 15, 1974 at his home in Tarryall and they lived there together for 42 years.
Steve and Shelly were blessed with three sons. Twins Gabriel and Daniel were born in 1978. Baby Daniel passed at one week of age. Their third son Samuel was born in 1982, but he too sadly passed in December of 2015. Gabe and his wife April blessed Steve with 2 granddaughters, Eva Dawn and Mina Lynn, who he loved deeply. He also has 2 grandsons, Luke and Cole, who he also loved.
Steve worked for Park County Road and Bridge for 32 years. He was a heavy equipment operator and a fine road grader operator. He took pride in all he did.
Steve loved to hunt, fish, backpack and camp. He loved all the dogs he ever had and there were many through the years.
He had to quit working in 2006 due to illness. He was so blessed to receive a liver transplant in 2009. Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with cancer. He fought a hard battle and never complained about all the treatments and surgeries. His battle ended on August 31, 2016 in the same hospital he was born in, 65 years ago.
Needless to say, he will be missed by his family and many great friends. On September 15, 2016, at 12 noon, there will be a memorial service held at the place he loved more than anyplace on this earth, his home in Tarryall. Lunch and fellowship will follow.
Please, no flowers but if you wish to make a donation to the Colorado Springs Humane Society or TCRAS in Divide, it would be greatly appreciated.
