Meteor Shower Night Saturday, Dec. 13

Join us at the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument for a special Geminid Meteor Shower Night Sky Program Saturday, December 13 for 6  to 8 pm.  Do you like shooting stars? We do! Saturday will be the peak of the Geminid Meteor Shower, famous for having a modest number of shooting stars but a high percentage of extra-bright “fireball” meteors. We’ll have plenty of targets for our telescopes, too – star clusters, galaxies, and more – but you might be too busy watching the whole sky for meteors! Meet at the Visitor Center. The program will begin with a 20-30 minute interpretive talk in the Visitor Center. Then we will step outside for 90 minutes of stargazing with telescopes, binoculars, and laser-guided tours of the stars and constellations. Please dress for winter weather in Colorado. Bring binoculars or a flashlight if you wish (red-filtered lights only please).  For additional information, please call (719) 748-3253 or visit our website at
