6-3lions park ceremony web

The 4th Engineer Battalion of Fort Carson, who has a close relationship with the city of Woodland Park, received a hearty welcome last week during a flag lowering ceremony at Lions Memorial Park, attended by city and community leaders. The Battalion recently returned from a several year tour in Afghanistan. The Battalion and the city have had an ongoing relationship since the early 1990s. In fact, Woodland Park City Manager David Buttery previously served with the Battalion. The ceremony marked another way of honoring their service. Their flag remained in the park, while members of the Battalion were in harms? way overseas. The Battalion didn?t suffer any casualties during their latest three-year stint, but have experienced a number of deaths and injuries during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Battalion Commander Daniel Hibner, who spoke at last week?s ceremony.
